The mentality about ilb needs to be that there are 4-5 starters in every class and we have to go find them. happened last year. Will happen this year.
Plentry of guys available instead of redmond. we just didn't prioritize.
The tartt experiment will last about as long as the first time he gets trucked by a pro guard.

Guys that are hypersensitive to the ILB position don't understand the schemes. This is a passing league. The "defensive FB" has become, like the wide-bodied NT, a 2-down player only. Hodges will be used to free up Bowman on 1st and 2nd downs as the thumper and on 3rd downs or whenever we go nickel and dime, he will leave the field and all these DB's will come in...including Tartt for either Bowman or Hodges (more likely).
Now, we're still "thin" there as I'm not feeling too good about their backups in Wilhoite and Skov.
These are some good points but I think it is important to re-emphasize how bad we were at run defense last year.

We were 7th in the league in 2014 and 2nd in rushing TD's allowed
We were 29th in the league in 2015 and literally last in TD's allowed
While you can make the argument that our scheme another great ILB isn't needed I think the stats are pretty glaring that our whole front 7 needs a huge boost as far as stopping the run especially stopping rushing TD's.
I don't think anyone believes Tartt will fix this.
Really think about this don't just defend your position, I can see the Tartt might be a better option on 2/3rds of the snaps. But how can that fix the worst rushing defense as far as TD's in the NFL.
