For the record, I love all people, handy-cap included. I'm just a very visual person, so when i pictured the scene in my head, I had to laugh. I really didn't mean it offensively, so I apologize if I offended you or a family member. I joke about almost anything, but God.

Despite history, Trent Baalke still open to drafting injured players

That appears to be Trent Baalke's approach to drafting players coming off serious knee injuries. Today, the 49ers general manager said he wouldn't shy away from selecting a rehabbing player in 2016. This, despite his lack of success with such prospects in recent drafts.

"I don't know that's something I'll veer away from moving forward," Baalke said. "We have 12 picks again and you're not going to have 12 rookies, 12 draft picks, make your team. So will we look at it? If we feel the value's right."

There are two prominent linebackers coming off serious knee injuries in this year's draft: UCLA's Myles Jack, a potential top-five pick, and Notre Dame's Jaylon Smith, whose more serious injury could send him tumbling out of the first two rounds.

From 2013-14, Baalke used five of his 23 picks on players coming off significant knee injuries, spending second-, third-, fourth-, fifth- and seventh-round selections on those rehabbing prospects. In 2015, two of those players (RB Marcus Lattimore and FB Trey Millard) weren't in the NFL and the remaining three (DL Tank Carradine, G Brandon Thomas and CB Keith Reaser) played an average of 103 snaps.

In 2015, Baalke used a fourth-round pick on wide receiver DeAndre Smelter, who didn't play last year because of a torn ACL he sustained in college.

Baalke noted he made those selections partly because the 49ers had an abundance of draft picks and it was obvious not all would be able to make the 53-man roster. From 2013-15, the 49ers had an average of 11 draft picks. This year, they have 12.

"I don't think you look at it and say that we're going to change the way we think," Baalke said. "I think you have to look at some of those of why we did it. When you have 12 and 13 picks, they're not all going to make your roster. So to layer it and take a chance on a guy that's very talented that has more of an upside than some of the other guys … There's value. Has it always panned out? No. But you go into it knowing that they're not all going to pan out."

Baalke also suggested it was too early to say some of those picks wouldn't pan out … eventually.

"I think Tank Carradine's going to have a very good season this year, I really do," Baalke said. "Brandon Thomas - we'll see where he's at with the new system, the new offense. And Keith Reaser, I think he showed last year at times, when he got into the games, which he didn't get into many games, that he's more than capable."

We should not draft the injured like broken his knee or toes. Or we can draft for some injured than broken knee or toes as worst injured. We will draft to Jaylon Smith at 5th round or 6th round than 3rd round or 4th round. That is fine.

12 rookies could easily make this team.
