I'd say no, just based on Trents past drafts, they are feel good stories, everyones likes to back a underdog and you hope the guy comes good. In saying that though, if the next PW52 is sitting in the draft with a injury . . . . . Trents gotta hit that!!

For real? Outside of Carradine who was widely misused, the only ones who were able to get on the field to start competing LAST YEAR were: Reaser (got some snaps), Acker (good year), Thomas (?) and Dial (nice year). Again, were they supposed to be all-pro's last year right out of the gate? Come on man. And now, this year, we're going to get a look at Reaser, Acker, Thomas, Dial (already signed a new deal), Carradine and Smelter.

Again, let's let these kids actually get on the field and play/compete before we declare this an unsound tactic.

Gore - great
Acker (1st year) - good first year (too early to judge)
Reaser (1st year) - started to work into the slot CB spot late last year (too early to judge)
Carradine (4th year) - miscast at RDE but down to 265 and will finally be used as a WILL (too early to judge)
Thomas (2nd year) - big mystery (too early to judge)
Smelter (2016 1st year) - (too early to judge)

Millard - 7th rounder who was never really tried and we had a number of TE's already (not a good fit?)
Lattimore - fail

after Lattimore quit , I'd rather stay away from injured projects

once we've strengthened the roster , then maybe we can start taking those chances with late or mid round picks , then it will be all gravy ...but we shouldn't draft those projects and crossing our fingers and "hope" they come back healthy

i think this is true. with lattimore you could make the case. we were stacked at that spot and we had a very very good roster so you could take a risk. and now. you can not say that

We JUST started the rebuild last year. Get over it. Up to that point our down year was 8-8 with 19 key players on I.R. We went from one of the oldest teams in the NFL to youngest overnight.

Even the ACL's you're whining about, half of them haven't even had a chance to get on the field yet or JUST started getting snaps last year.

Rebuilds take time...3 years minimum; realistically, much longer.

Like Nolan noted, Trent was a major factor in bringing in the core of our Championship team prior to being the defacto GM or formal/official GM and then, when he became the full-time GM, he added the rest of the pieces we needed to make a 3-year-straight run; not many GM's can make such a claim.

If he can do it once, he can do it again...especially if he doesn't have to navigate around GM's like Mike Nolan and Scot McDrunk (at that time: 2008-2009) and coaches who got the 2nd picks in the draft (Singletary/Harbaugh).

Relax. Take a deep breath. Rework your expectations. With the hardest schedule in the NFL (thanks Roger) and a growing green team (6th youngest) and green coaching staff (2nd youngest) together, we're looking at around a 7 win-season at best.

Exactly. I'd be very surprised if Baalke used this strategy NOW. Like you said...later on, when most of the 53 is set and we'd like to stash some talent for later, sure. But not when you are starting a rebuild. I'd take exception to that.

It's worked out so well, I think Baalke should take it up a notch. The special olympics would be a good start; tons of untapped potential.
