CB would we be better with Ward at CB.

Listening to his audio, the dude loves S because it's more "physical" and with his film study, being able to see things unfold (i.e. how the OL pulls, give-aways, alignments, WR and TE tendencies, etc.), I think he could become a dynamic SS for us especially with that range and anticipation. That same kind of mentality was why Bethea was so good for so long despite losing a step...the ability to read and process and anticipate plays based on his film study.

due to injuries and just getting used to the nfl game and elite wide outs in the nfl. the kid is a late bloomer and will prove himself worthy of the first round pick. at least we can put the bust blather to rest

With the team going back to more man concepts, I think Brock will have a resurgence, and DJ gets to throw his hat into the mix as starting CB. I don't think Mangini's zone schemes played to the strengths of these two guys. JoN will play a healthy mix of press and off coverage, with Brock excelling in off coverage. He does a good job reading a QB's dropback and jumping three step concepts - an example is Bow's pick6 at the Stick.

I'd also like to see what Ward can do at safety, where he can have a bigger impact than at slot CB or CB. Tartt I'd like to see played like DBuchanon from ARI as a hybrid safety/LB. He didn't look good to me as a safety, but he was a rookie from a small college so there's going to be a big learning curve there as he adjusts to the speed of the NFL. There's some positional flexibility with these two guys so it'll be interesting how the new defensive staff, who obviously had no input in the drafting of Ward/Tartt, views them.

I'm hoping we keep Antoine as well , it would be a smart move to keep him around to mentor the younger DB's for a season , plus he has enough in the tank to make an impact

that is what i think to. he really is a wonderful mentor

Ward is nice in the slot so I say leave him there and at safety. Let's not try to get cute. We need better cover guys on the outside.

good words of advice.. i know little about the x and o of the game and positions but you are wise. sometimes we get a little to cute and try to move guys around just because we think and hope they can just adapt.
