Can't Kap agree to a new contract with the Broncos for a $7 million salary and that largely lets the 9ers off the hook for any difference he would have gotten? Except, I suppose there would be some kind of cap hit because of the way the cap rules work - maybe a few million dollars? If so, I think he would do it if the opportunity actually developed.
I think the 9ers management should decide definitely to keep or trade Kap within the next couple of weeks at the latest (that is, actually trade him or definitely state that they are not going to entertain any trade offers). I don't think it's a good dynamic to keep his situation uncertain.

Yea you keep waiting for that. I'm onto the draftOriginally posted by qnnhan7:Once the Niners trade Kaep anytime up until the trading dead line (November), the team that gets him will be responsible for the rest of his contract, including whatever is left of his salary in 2016.
If the Broncos don't renegotiate his contract, they will be stuck with paying Kaep from the date that they traded for him, of that 12mil guaranteed spread throughout the year in weekly salary.

Ain't nothing uncertain here. Kap is staying until we get what we want. The uncertainty is from the folk that can't see thisOriginally posted by 49erphan:Can't Kap agree to a new contract with the Broncos for a $7 million salary and that largely lets the 9ers off the hook for any difference he would have gotten? Correct?
Not anymore.. it's out of his hands now... he can just sit back and relax.

I think it will be the second day of the draft.... after the 9ers or Broncos find out about their QB situations in the 1st round.

I agree. I'm just stating my understanding of the current situation. There's no way an agent would advise his client to take 12mil guaranteed off the table and go to another team, unless Kaep tells them he wants it that way. Don't think Kaep will do that either.
It's about money in Kaep's side most likely. It's about getting a high draft pick in return for the Niners. And for the Broncos, they want Kaep for lesser draft pick and money.
For the Broncos, I don't know how they will make it work on the cap side even if they traded for Kaep. They must know how to manipulate their cap space to fit the guaranteed 12 mil of Kaep to even considered trading for him in the first place. Seems like more BS is coming from Denver than the other parties involved.

He;ll be starting for us this year. Broncos just don't have the cap space anymore. Once they resigned Anderson and paid Okung they were pretty much out of the game.

Is Monday the first day that Chip can legally have a sit down and talk football with Kap? Maybe that is the point where this whole thing flips one way or the other...

Yes I believe it is. Only four days till they can legally talk football. The real issue with Kap is he's not ready to actually start off-season activities so everything is really a nonissue until he gets to that point IMO.

Chip, like Harbaugh, has a knack for making QBs look better than they are. If Kap was valued as a 3rd-4th rounder after getting benched, Chip's system should elevate him to a better pick next season.
He could be a hot commodity next offseason. It worked in dealing Alex. Kap's contract isn't hurting us, so there's no rush.
There's no need for logic on this forum......
Right! And for those Goff/Wentz draft fans, having Kaepernick come in, play well, or at least adequately , have the new QB of the future sit for a year, then trade Kaepernick for a better pick next year, well that would be a great scenario, no?
the thing is chip kelly system is kind of complicated from what ive heard and his system requires quick thinking and fast release
i think his release is ok but the former are ? for him on top of that there have been many reports saying kap struggled with large playbooks and the playbooks had to be slimmed down after he started.
i agree i have no problem keeping him we have so [much cap space its worth the risk due to kelly and his upside but at the same time i like the move of taking goff and getting a 3rd for kap
if kap/49ers dont reach 8-8 his market will only get worse/nonexistant as only 2 teams made offers for kap and only saw his value as 8M/year which is high priced backup money

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports the Broncos want Colin Kaepernick to take around a $5 million pay cut.
Set to earn $11.9 million this season, the Broncos want Kaepernick to reduce his salary to "approximately" $7 million before they green-light a trade. Considering his contract is set to fully guarantee Friday, he has little reason to take that big of a pay cut unless he is dead set on getting out of San Francisco. All signs point to Kaepernick sticking with the 49ers for another season.
I'm not too sure how reliable Jason Cole is though. 5 mil is a bit much, but I think it's to fit Kaepernick into Denver's cap space.

The Broncos wanting him to take a pay cut is part of it but what they're offering if what's really holding up the deal. If you can get two 2nds for Alex Smith, surely Kapshouod garner a very similar trade. His trade value is low because teams know the niners will part with him within a year and he's coming off a bad 1 1/2. Watch how much his value shoots up if he plays good in preseason and the first couple of weeks in the regular season.

not true
both browns/broncos have reportedly agreed on compensation(a 3rd rounder) but whats holded up the trade for both teams was kap salary they both wanted him to take a paycut to play under 8M/year

Kap should not take a pay cut. We n this league you gotta get the money first. Now Kap needs a great year to keep it coming. Whether SF or DEN he's gotta ball out from here on out

ifm not looking at this from his point of view just as a fan
if i was kap i dont know playing for the broncos is tempting even at 7M so much margin of error with that type of defense to pile wins on to resume
