About CB alignment, he will align his CBs in both press and off coverage and mix it up.

That would have been my guesstimate but that's a good confirmation!

Antonio Cromartie is not a shut down corner but I wonder if we bring him in. He was gonna visit Buffalo to Rejoin Rex but if Cromartie is here it may help Oneil do more of what he likes to do in the secondary.

Shutdown CB is a title reserved for only a few players in the league. Cromartie is not one, like you said, and would not allow JoN to play his coverages like how he did with Hayden. I think CLE 2015, when Hayden was injured, could be more indicative of how JoN will scheme the 2016 49ers - no shutdown CB.

Hopefully that fares better than the results he got last year at 27th best defense in the league (still 2 spots better than we did). Baby steps.

not to knitpick, but shutdown corner is thrown around waaaaaaaay too much. I reserve that title for deion, revis had a short run as a shut down guy, nnamdi did to, and sherman had a run for a year or two as a shut down guy.

but back to the task at hand. I dont want cromartie unless its on a one year deal, I relaly like the young guys and feel if we put the proper pass rush in front of them they can be awesome.
We had one under noln, Nate the great, who was surrounded by mediocrtity and rapidly transformed into a guy who barely could deflect an occasional pass. Shut down corner means a rare talent who can beat most anybody one on one, but also has a supporting cast, Front 7 and excellent DBs that allow that SDC a chance to ply his trade. SDC...bet you can count them on 3 or 4 fingers.

This. I do not want.
This made me smile!

"I think we'll be a little more simple this year," Armstead said. "Get lined up and just play, really. And not try to make it more complicated than it is. … Put the linemen in front of people and, you know, beat them up. That's the vibe I'm getting from the meetings so far."

Just remember, it had nothing to do with having Hudson, Zito, Mulder and a SS hitting .330 and knocking in a buck thirty. Hatteberg and getting Justice to take walks was the key

Before Billy Beane nobody ever paid any attention to OBP nobody ever knew that less outs > more outs. The man is a genius.

Except he never hit .330 in Oakland.
