I just hope this guy coaches toughness and fundamentals. I hate seeing missed tackles and defenders that play scared. I love being a feared if not respected defense.

Yes the physicality that the niners brought to that saints playoff victory will forever be one of my favorite games of all time for that reason.

That year was magical. The Saints game was the best game of my life.

Yeah we need to bring the wood. Last year we were so soft.

When a team tried to run against our 2011 defense, it was like taking a knee. Just a wasted down.

Justin Smith is badly missed. He owned the line of scrimmage. We need Arik or someone to step it up.

Ill never forget cowboy shoving his guy into brees and grabbing brees by his jersey.
We were feared. We were monsters on defense.
Just copy the Denver defense. All problems solved. They were in after 4 downs of offense most of the time, but it didn't matter.

That and the hit Whitner put on Thomas. Two of my favorite defensive plays from those teams.

Yes it was. Nobody expected what unfolded that year and it was just awesome to see, it really was. But if I had to just pick one game from that season that I will more than likely remember the most from that season 15 years from now, it'd be that saints game.

I equate this hiring to promoting Geep to OC last year.

Just a terrible hire.

Defensive "Background"

Northwestern (2003–2004)
Defensive backs coach

Towson (2005)
Defensive coordinator & defensive backs coach

Eastern Michigan (2006–2008)
Recruiting coordinator & safeties coach

New York Jets (2009)
Defensive quality control & defensive backs coach

New York Jets (2010–2012)
Assistant defensive backs coach

Buffalo Bills (2013)
Linebackers coach

Cleveland Browns (2014–2015)
Defensive coordinator

We just don't learn.

Never more than a couple of years at anywhere. Very skeptical of this resume. Maybe the rest of the defensive staff will help, since Kelly already hired them before he got Oh no

So you wanted a guy who held the exact same position for two decades? O'Neil changed jobs a lot but every single one was a promotion.

That at least shows that people over him were willing to progressively give him more higher profile jobs.

I'm not thrilled with the hire but looking at his resume I see a young coach that has moved up the ranks pretty quickly. He's not a guy who got pigeon-holed as a DB coach in college for like 2 decades before moving up.

He clearly has upside, I just hope that he learned from his mistakes in Cleveland.

Sure it wasn't a splash hire but it's not like the DC market was rich. It was pretty thin to begin with.
