Niners hire ST coach Derius Swinton

The ST is supposedly 1/3 of the team and it got flat azz forgotten or mishandled or both last yr. We must have had the worst ST in the NFL last yr for reasons given above, but you have to put that on the ST Coach, and he was krapt....at best. He was most horriblest at worst. And if ST really is valued as 1/3 of the team, well, it lived up to being the worst ST in the league, going right along with the worst HC in the league, lousy DC, and lousy OC. So yeah, a guy with Swinton's pedigree...look at his previous stops...all great D stops... has been exposed to some of the best out there. If he can bring that here, the 9ers are 33% better as a team already.

Starting from the 11 yd line is not the way to start a drive. Giving up 70, 80, 90 yd returns is not the way either. We stunk on ST at each and every spot...PR, KO, or whatever. Just that fix alone should be worth a couple or more Ws from last yr. Also returning KOs from deep in the EZ is a matter of coaching....bad coaching. And last yr our ST coach failed, F-

It would be sweet if we can get an elite kick/punt returner like when we had Ginn. Remember how big a difference that made?

Just watched some highlights of that game today. Kyle Williams was responsible for three turnovers and almost had 4 fumbles/muffs in that game in total. He should've never been out on the field for that last PR. I really feel like this team would've won the Super Bowl that year if we had advanced. But.. that's off topic.

Anyone got stats on the ST units Swinton helped coach each of the past few years?
IMHO Hayne can be a factor in the return game, also I could see him as a multitool in Kelly´s offence.

Ginn wasn´t elite, but he was good/very good.

ST sucked under the previous coach no two ways about it, how many times on kick off we start drives from 10yrd line? That is if we didn't give away poor penalties around poor discipline.

How many yards we give up with so many fair catch calls and poison ball calling ?

Who ever was doing the PR/KR

New coach should be able to fix the penalty issues with improved player discipline being priority.

Better blocking prior to PR guy getting the ball can only improve as well,as focus on blocki g assistance when our guy has the ball even if he has gone past our player...

Let alone player management method of the last guy throwing his players under the bus everytime in the pressers.

Aside from the OC getting the big hook. The 49ers needed a new ST coach.

From what I see this is a good hire let alone any hire being better then current coach.

From a low base we shall, see next season I guess.
