Whoa, thanks for the post. To think we had a guy who couldn't get two sentences together and now we have a guy who understands all O and D players, choices, how plays actually work, and why....oh, my are we in for a fun season. Yes we have personnel problems, but trent is going to come thru for us wiht starters for a change. 5 of them.

I agree with everything Chip said in this video

From reading and watching videos, it seems the inside zone is the most important play for this offense.

Hyde can be a very good fit as long as the OL gets upgraded, particularly at guard. How well the offense works will largely depend on the OL being able to execute and open up cutback lanes for the RB.

The QB run option element on his inside zone is something Chip hasn't had at the pro level. I think both Gabbert or Kap can be athletic enough to keep that DE honest. That would also help on this play. If they crash in you then make them pay. If Kap was right, he'd make a killing on these inside zone reads.
Kap has been linked to Kelly for 2 years in a row. Now he has him.
I watched the whole video.. Impressive grasp if both sides of the ball. But the TD where the receiver was the 4th option... Great. But I don't think Kaepernick ends up making those kinds of plays. Shrug. I just don't see that happening.

Could this be the end of Bruce Miller? I don't see them using a FB

He said, "53 1/3!"

I don't totally know what that means, but it was around the time he was talking about using the whole field and how 21 teams only have their defense occupy a small in the box area.
Someone already answered the first part. But the 21 is not in reference to the number of teams, it's in reference to a personnel grouping. 21 means 2 RB's and 1 TE. Those formations compact the opposing defense creating a smaller area they need to defend. Which is the opposite of the point of the spread. Hope that helps.

I just hope the fans and the front office give Kelly the time needed to transition this team. The Eagles had much more talented offensive personnel in 2013 and were closer in style to what his system needs (particularly at WR and OL) than what we have today.

Kelly referenced a personnel grouping but just a reminder that formations do not dictate personnel groupings. You can run 21 personnel, but do it with spread formations. Generally though 21 personnel is run out of base type formations (IForm, Strong Weak & in our old school WCO Split, near, far).

His thoughts though are from a spread guys point of view. The niners for example ran a ton of 21 personnel in the 80s and 90s out of normal forms and made the defense defend the whole field with the use of more horizontal concepts.

Chip is a smart dude, the way he had a precise answer for every question he was asked and how fast he arrived at those answers is very encouraging. it wouldve taken tomsula atleast 5 minutes to get his football for dummies book out of his backpack to see how many DB's a dime package has.

It's clear that 11 personnel (1rb/1te/3wr) was the majority personnel grouping for Chip in PHI. Like you mentioned, Chip can still go 21 and spread the field if he likes that matchup better. I don't see PHI going 21 very much. It's all 11. If Chip spreads the field with 21, Bruce Miller or the TE would have to play slot WR in these situations.

Many concepts/plays show up in every playbook. Here's a recognizable play that was used many times last season for the 49ers. I'll show some shared plays between the 49ers and what Chip ran in PHI is I spot them.
Shallow Cross + Curl-Flat vs Cover 2 Man

With the defenders' backs turned to the QB, its should signal 'man coverage' to the QB. The correct read is to look towards the Drag route, which is a good man coverage busting route. Vick will step up into the pocket to avoid edge pressure.

Vick tucks and runs. The yellow drag is there for the taking and room to run.

Must make that throw to the drag route, while placing it correctly for RAC.

Will not pick up the 1st down.

Same route concepts as above vs Cover1 blitz (man coverage)
The 49ers are in 13 (1rb/3te/1wr)

Target the drag route for a little RAC.

Chip Kelley just got that 5 year contract, and we are still paying Tomsula like 40million for cutting him early.

Chip kelley is here to stay for quite a while, u dont have anything to worry about.
