It all starts in the trenches, Kelly has proved he can do it. Baalke needs to get him those players

From reading and watching videos, it seems the inside zone is the most important play for this offense. Plays like this show how important the inside zone run will be. Plays can get simple and effective if the inside zone is a threat to the defense.
Slide concept vs Cover1
The 49er ran Slide a lot in 2015, but used outside zone playaction. Here's PHI using inside zone playaction. From ARI's presnap alignment, they are looking to stop the run (8 in box).

Read option.

Yellow come across the formation on the slide action and helps to block the mesh point. The unblocked defender can't get a good read on who has the ball.

Suck defenders towards the center of the field, attack the edge. Stacked box creates open space outside the numbers. High percentage pass to gain RAC.

This is how the 49ers ran Slide - with outside zone playaction.

So thl based on what your seeing on the Chip offense. Do you think Gabbert or Kaep have the tools to succeed in this offense or do you think the 49ers will look at other options?

If you look closely on Kelly's version he lines up the RB close the QB , giving the QB a better vision of what the unblock DL is doing and making the pass a lot easier

Which means to answer your question somewhat helps the QB a lot more

Same game (2014)
Slide versus Cover1
ARI loves to apply the pressure with Cover1 blitz so this play versus this coverage is relevant. 8 in the box.

Inside zone playaction (read option).

Because ARI blitzes, and the threat of the inside zone freezes the edge defender (unblocked defender), the TE gets a free run.

I do think they have it takes to make this scheme work for them. Sanchez/Foles were able to move the ball so I have to believe Kap/Gab can move the ball too. The biggest obstacle right now is a roster talent issue with the OL.

Watching 3rd downs can be a good indicator of what the offense likes to do when it needs to make a play.
Yellow will motion across the foramtion. Blue CB will follow which tells the QB it's man coverage.
vs Cover 2 Man

Yellow sets into a stack with red.

Both red and yellow stem to the outside maintaining their stacked look. In Cover2 Man, the slot CBs want to play with inside leverage to keep WRs away from the middle of the field, where the seam between the two safeties exist. You can see one defender with his hips turned to the outside, playing inside leverage. The blue CB is being picked via interference from his own team mate, and can't defend yellow.

Red runs enough interference for yellow to get separation from his defender, and works the middle area of the field.

Yellow is easily schemed open against man coverage. Simple throw for RAC.
came across this while googling something else for another thread (haha, my friday night), only a little ways in but it's already great. so I thought I'd share.

Here's an excerpt:

"Everything about Kelly is about speed," wrote Seth Wickersham in an ESPN the Magazine profile. Watching his team play was like watching the German blitzkrieg, only running backs replaced tanks. The game seemed to be happening in fast-forward-and on acid. The players hardly huddled, but sprinted to the line to hear the call. In an era increasingly defined by passing, his team ran the ball and scored 40 points 40 times in his 53 games. In 2013, he jumped to the NFL and became the 21st coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, an organization that managed to win just 12 games in the previous two years.
If a team fires their coach, it normally means everyone is on notice. When the Chicago Bears replaced Lovie Smith with Marc Trestman, they also replaced four of the five starting offensive lineman. When Lovie Smith replaced Greg Schiano in Tampa Bay, the organization brought in a new QB the minute union rules allowed. Despite fielding the third-worst offense in the league the previous season, the Eagles made no major personnel changes to the offense. Of the 12 veteran free agent signings the club made that offseason, only two were offensive players: TE James Casey and RB Felix Jones (who was later traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers). It was almost as if they figured Kelly could work magic.

He did.

I'm hoping that Chip Kelly can get the TOP closer so our def doesn't get owned this year

That read option element adds a whole other demention to the slide concept. Here is what the slide looked like in the traditional WCO:

In the old version, the goal was to get the defense flowing towards the run fake and work off of that to get a high percentage pass to the back or TE crossing. On this play Joe or Steve wasn't gonna hand the ball off at any time. On Kelly's with that option element it adds another layer.

Old school WCO slide options:
1.) high percentage pass to the slide receiver or secondary target
2.) QB run

Kelly's slide:
1.) inside dive
2.) high percentage pass to slide to slide receiver
3.) QB run

Hyde can be a very good fit as long as the OL gets upgraded, particularly at guard. How well the offense works will largely depend on the OL being able to execute and open up cutback lanes for the RB.

So Bruce Miller still has a role in Kelly's offense

The QB run option element on his inside zone is something Chip hasn't had at the pro level. I think both Gabbert or Kap can be athletic enough to keep that DE honest. That would also help on this play. If they crash in you then make them pay. If Kap was right, he'd make a killing on these inside zone reads.
