I'm so excited for this guy, I can feel it. Last time we got excited for a head coach, we did pretty well. Enjoy the process!

Appreciate the optimism. But this isn't 2013. I'm not thinking about Super Bowls right now. We're going to have to take it one step at a time. How about digging ourselves out of the laughing stock first? We're currently being recognized as one of the worst two or three teams in the league, if not worst. Put a team out there that is competitive first, then next year we'll worry about a winning record. Then the following year we'll hopefully be a playoff contender.

One step at a time. I do think Chip Kelly is a better HC than the league perceives. The Eagles dumped him way too quickly, IMO. Had two 10-6 seasons with them and then the following year they get rid of him after a 6-9 start. It their kicker had made a few more kicks they would have been 9-6, lol. Hopefully Kelly makes the Eagles look dumb. If he doesn't, they'll look like geniuses for immediately noticing that the league "figured him out."

Oh i can definitely feel where you're coming from, but I didn't necessarily put a year on if&*when* that Super Bowl occurs.
Could be 2 years, could be 7,could be 10. I mean, it's tough getting a SB, you need that magic more times than not but obviously putting a good product on the field is crucial as well. Chips changes to the team was a short and long term direction move, more so long IMO cause he was replacing some of his great players for younger&hand picked players. But I mean, not like he took over a title contender. Eagles jumped the gun IMO when almost seeming to forget how he even got them to give him the power.

I just like Chips a legit offensive mind, Trent knows D&what I'm hearing from O'Neil, players sounding like they're fitting well in the scheme included.
No idea how to post it from my phone, but in the Gabbert transcript about practice today he was asked about huddling vs no huddle vs Houston. THAT would be new. Am I reading that right? Gabbert said good to be versed in both, so sounded like they'll do at least a bit of both this year.

Good coach but I'm worried on who he selected as his coordinators At first, he wanted Billy Davis to be the defensive coordinator I'm worried about his inability to select quality coaches/coordinators. Harbaugh hit a grand slam in that regard when he first took over the team in 2011.

greatest OC of all time amirite?

Remember all the praise we received about our creative running game? Or our creative penalty inducing shifts? Roman did have a underwhelming passing attack but and he was definately the one that got most of the blame for our weak offense but looking back he wasn't all bad.

I dont want this to get burried. I'm excited to see if they break out a huddle on Sunday.

I will be looking for that as well.

The 49ers spent one team drill backed up on their own goal line. The team slowed down the pace and huddled up prior to each snap.

Texas, see above. I think this is another new wrinkle. When backed up in their own EZ, go to huddle...but like you noted, perhaps they'll now vary the pace some and really dictate the pace. I'd love that!

I don't see that, personally. Inside your own 20ish, your playbook is limited. Chip's is limited anyway, so huddling makes sense because the %'s say you're going 3 and out. Should give the defense a decent breather if that happens. I'm with you though. I'd love to see them mix up pace a bit

This has become a nice thread. Someday we should put it all together in bullet points for everyone.

I think Chip put together the best staff that he could. Chip never played or coached in the NFL before 2013 and thus he probably has a limited number of pro connections because of it. I know that he knows Chan Gailey from a summer visit when he was in Oregon, and that's where the Bicknell and Modkins connections came from. He is friends with Urban Meyer and Bill Belichick so there is your Vrabel connection.

As far as Billy Davis, it's somebody that he knows and has a comfort working with. Not that I'm a fan and I wasn't excited about getting O'Neil either but I do believe O'Neil is better than Davis. He learned under some great defensive minds in Rex and Pettine. He's also coached some very good secondaries in the NFL. People look at his last year in Cleveland as his scouting report but Cleveland also lost its two best players in the secondary for a good stretch of games that season and maybe it's best player overall in Haden for over half the season.

He coordinated a great pass defense the year before and his coverage ideals are a good fit for our personnel as man was what most of these guys were drafted to be under Fangio. In Philadelphia coach Azz helped to coach a great run defense and hopefully he and O'Neil's coaching experience within the secondary can be a perfect marriage. Philadelphia had statistically one of the bottom three secondaries every season under Chip and as mentioned that is where the vast majority of O'Neil's background comes from, so I commend Chip for trying to rectify a problem for him with the eagles.

It has been said that in 2015 Pettine took a step back away from the defense to take a bigger role on the team as a whole but I just find it hard to believe that a coach who's entire coaching background is defense just removed himself but so much, especially if the defense was struggling. O'Neil called the plays both years in Cleveland so I think him as the sole scape goat for last year's Cleveland's defense is unfair. I'm willing to give O'Neil an open minded try to see what he has learned from in his past and at least if the defense fails in San Francisco, it can be said it was HIS defense, and his alone.

Here's hoping for the best.

I love how the Eagles fans are blaming Chip for Wentz rib injury.

Also now saying they have no playoff chance because of Chip.

Then they say that he can't trade or cut too much with 49ers.

WTF?!

If on nfl.com message board.... not the brightest commenting there.
The third part is mostly true, though he has significant voice in it before Baalke makes the last call.
