I thought about that too.

That's a good point. Pressure is on Baalke to get this franchise going back in the right direction. Might get him to make a play for a franchise QB.

Only QB I'd want at the top of RD 1 is Goff. People are split on him, but I really like him. Feel like he's easily the best QB prospect in the draft.

If not QB, I want a pass rusher. Basically a repeat of 2011 when we went pass rusher RD 1, then QB in rd 2 if there's a good prospect still available.

Didn't the trade that Baalke pulled of with Vernon involve future draft picks? Doesn't that imply that he is pretty secure for now?

And what QBs do you think are worthy of a 1st round pick in 2017?

Maybe. I think that trade had more to do with Vernon having nothing left to give for this team, and had to be dealt for whatever we could get in return . Whether Baalke's job is secure or not, his responsiblity as the GM is to do what's best for the team.

Because players are always judged on the basis of 1 or 2 games.

If thats the case, you wouldn't draft anybody.

lol no. i just have watched a lot of Memphis games the last few years. nothing he does has screamed top 5 pick. i mean if i am watching film and comparing him to say a Goff...no way I would have him rated higher than Goff. Goff can make throws that Lynch just cannot. One to say which is the most important is the back shoulder throw. Lynch struggles greatly.
Goff officially announced today that he'll be in this upcoming draft, for what it's worth.

If we lose on Sunday, I can't see any of the teams ahead of us wanting to select a QB. The Titans just got their guy in the last draft, the Cowboys already have Romo, and the Chargers have Rivers who has been having a fantastic season and just signed a large contract with them. The only team ahead of us that I can possibly see picking a QB is the Browns, but in my honest opinion, they can still work with what they have and should focus on other things.

We may have dibs on the #1 QB prospect in the draft if Baalke wants to go that route.

actually no, not really...

BOTH the Cowboys and Chargers could be taking Geoff and Paxton Lynch....and have them sit under their Vets for the next few years. Maybe one year in the Cowboys case with Romo and all.

the one good thing about taking QBs early in the draft now a days, is that there is no crazy 50mil upfront BS anymore.

Dallas already has a great Oline for a Young QB to ease into.

I don't see either of those teams taking a QB early. Rivers is coming off one of his best seasons of his career and is only 34 years old, which isn't that bad when you have QB's playing into their late 30's nowadays. He also signed a long term extension this season through 2020. I don't see QB as a pressing issue for them but they desperately need OL and DL help.

The Cowboys will add a QB, no doubt, they got caught flat-footed when Romo went down. But with a healthy Romo and Bryant, they are a playoff team and a possible SB contender. Romo is also signed through 2019. So if its comes down to them choosing between a QB that could sit on the bench for 2-3 years or an impact starter on defense such as Jalen Ramsey or Jaylon Smith, a guy who would come in and a good quality performer for them from Day 1, I think they opt to go with the latter. Their secondary is a wreck and badly needs help. I would expect them to either make a trade for a QB or draft one in the 2nd or 3rd rounds though.

None of that stops either of those teams from trading down with a QB-needy franchise of course, but the Browns are the only ones that I think are highly likely to take a QB, and even then, with the Titans needing OL help and a likely landing spot for Tunsil, the Browns will have a tough choice at #2, choosing between picking a QB, or the local Ohio star product in Bosa sitting right there, looking like a cornerstone for their defense for the next decade.

No matter what goes down, if the 49ers are sitting there at #5,they will have their choice of highly talented players. If two QB's go early, then some elite prospects will have to drop, so either way its a win-win IMO.

No doubt the 49ers should get an impact player.

As to QBs; I highly doubt that Goff will get past Cleveland and Dallas. Jerry Jones has already seen what his offense looks like when Romo goes down. I don't think he would pass on Goff, assuming Goff shows well in the combine.

Also, I don't believe Cleveland is sold on Johnny Money. I would not be at all surprised if they packaged Manziel for future picks and grabbed Goff.

My dream scenario would be if Bosa drops to us. We need that kind of impact player on the front line.

Gabbert can play well enough to win consistently if we get him some tools and bring back the pass rush to the defense.
Trade a second and a 4th to the patriots for garopollo. None of these scrubs next year are worth even a dreamers shot. Just let Belichick do our picks for us and overpay so at least we get some value as opposed to what baalke gives us.
I want to draft a literal brick wall with our first pick. Like the one Humpty Dumpty fell off of. Then I want to draft an iron gate with our second pick. If that iron gate comes with an intercom or something so it can call out pass protection, even better. Then pick up a guy like Hackenberg or Kessler or even Hogan to sit behind Gabbert for a couple years. I also want to pick up an old vet off FA and keep 3 QBs on the active roster.

I could see Clev. Trading Jonny to Dallas and taking Goff.

Jerry Jones would probably still love having him on the Cowboys.

I think the management needs to sell us on the hope of a future dynasty, not a quick fix that gets us to 500 in the NFC west. Goff may be the best business decision to keep us holding onto our season tickets and purchasing more merchandise. Baalke wants to draft a Dlineman, and that's part of the reason why he needs to be canned asap so we can get a fresh set of eyes to evaluate our team.
If you've ever hated on Kaep, showered Gabbert with love spittle, or advocated the drafting of Conner Cook, I've pulled your fan card. You are no longer welcome here.

We have no idea what Cleveland will do. Need to see how the offseason plays out. They haven't exactly been the epitome of draft prowess so they could draft Connor Cook for all we know or not even go QB in the first round(maybe they learned their lesson)

Plus if they draft Goff maybe he's not the guy we wanted with their track record of QB selections :)
