I see both sides to this. As a fan I don't want to see them lose but then again, I don't want to see the same clueless coaching staff next year. The only way to do that is by losing bad.

Or maybe he's smart enough and loves his team enough to realize that losing and getting blown out could be the best thing for this team for next year and the future. The longer Tomsula is here, the longer it will take for us to compete for Super Bowls. and if we're not competing for Super Bowls what's the point.

That is an extremely naive take. Do you want the team to win is not the question, the question do you want the team to win next week or this week or win more next year and the year after...that is the issue. Personally, I would like to see some guys progress, but lose convincingly enough to get our coaching staff kicked out the door. This is the worst coached team in football.

pains me to want the 9ers to lose...but come on, its a complete joke. Winning is completely pointless at this point. Lose, get higher draft pic and better draft leverage. Shake s**t up and pay big $ for a top coaching staff. Come on Jed Boy. Pay the fvcking money for a great staff!

It wouldn't matter if Bill Walsh came back from the grave, this roster is so devoid of talent right now that it couldn't win more than 6 games if the opponents abandoned the field at half time.

Fire whoever you want, it will not bring talent to one of the least talented rosters in the league. I honestly can't name more than 6-8 players that could make the roster of a good team.

Sarcasm is really hard to read over the internet.

That's a bit of a stretch, also supported by the fact that teams pillage players from good teams. When a team is in the gutter, nobody wanted their players, regardless of talent. I am willing to bet almost all of our defensive starters would start somewhere else. And on offense, I am thinking Boldin, Patton, Smith, Hyde, Staley, Boone, and Kilgore would start somewhere else. You could probably also make arguments for Blake Bell and Garrett Celek
The person thats needs firing Most of All is Baalke. He has brought nothing to the table. The Cupboard is BARE. There are NO BUILDING BLOCKS. He hemmoraged 4 AWFUL Drafts (2012,2013,2014 and 2015) 40 picks and NOT 1 ELITE PLAYER??????????? Yikes that in a normal run organization is grounds for dismissal but with the Yorks it means pay raise

It is a sidetrack but I'll go there for the sake of making my point. In an effort to be somewhat objective, I will use PFF's overall position ranking grade for the following:
Bold I keep.

Reid - 33 (32 safties grade higher than Eric Reid, etc.)
Tartt - 73 (keep because of improving play late in the season)
Bethea - 70 (done)
Ward - 32 (improving)
Brock- 68 no
Bowman - 47 (influenced by early season poor play)
Hodges - 69 (worth bringing to TC but not quality so far) (for giggles, Manny Lawson is ranked #18 in Edge Defenders)
Wilhoite - 94
Williams - 21 (obvious)
Armstead - 30 (grading well lately)
Dial - 75 (disappointing considering hoopla)
Jerod-Eddie - 113
Lynch - 25 (yes)
Harold - 78 (TC player at this point)
Brooks - 90 (a net negative)
Lemonier - 103 (nothing)

8 defenders that are obvious starters

Gabbert - 28 (at least a bridge to the new guy)
Kaepernick - 36 (he's done here)
Hyde - 16 (yes)
Draughn - 56
Miller - 10 (under-used and under appreciated)
Boldin - 40 (done)
Smith - 72 (only because of his contract and hope to bring in a true #1)
Patton - 76
Celek - 30 (solid backup)
McDonald - 58
Bell - 69
Staley - 8 (yes)
Pears - 53
Tiller - 22 (should have been starting sooner)
Boone - 40
Devey - 76
Martin - 79
Kilgore - 27 (still regaining form)

By PFF grades there are only 8 on offense that would clearly be starters on some team in the league, although not necessarily a good one.

That is a total on only 16 players that grade well enough to start on one of the 32 teams in the league. Some of those teams include terrible ones like Tennessee, Cleveland and San Diego. How can any coach win with that level of talent?

Sorry it took so long to respond. Had to run an errand.

You are on crack if you think Patton is a starter, anywhere, and bext year should be Boldin's last. He should be a spot player at this point in his career. The argument for Bell is weak at best. I am going to be generous and give you Celek. That is 6 players, total, that could be starters on another team. And one if those us injured. That is not good news for any coach. Having 12 players capable of being full time starters on each side of the ball is the goal. And I guarantee, our defensive side of the ball doesn't have 12 folks good enough to just go to another team and walk on as a guaranteed starter.

I don't think anyone, no matter who they are, could have gotten a winning season out of what we had to work with.

So then you agree with me that its All Baalke's fault for continuously Bombing Draft after draft right?

If it is going to take 2 blowouts late in the year to convince the front office this coaching staff is not the answer then we have much deeper issues than just the coaching staff. If the first 14 games didn't convince them then final 2 games won't make any difference.

From all the leaks, it seems clear that Jed and the FO recognize that lack of talent (plenty of blame to go around) is the main issue, not the quality of the coaching staff. They have already seen and admitted that this roster is not good. Another two losses won't make that any clearer.

I don't think Tomsula is a great coach by any means, however, he was dealt a crappy hand from the get go. Further, I believe it will be very hard to bring a good coach here given the lack of talent. It will take two more very good drafts plus some crafty FA pickups to restock this roster. I don't think Sean Peyton will be willing to wait for that.

If Tomsula is fired after this season, it will take a monster contract to get a good coach to come in and watch over the nurturing of a new roster. By the time this team is winning again, Staley and Bowman will be watching from the couch.

I don't think that lack of talent is any deterrent to a good coach taking the job. The Saints were not talented when Payton took over. The Seahawks were not talented when Carrol took over. The 49ers were not talented when Walsh took over. Good coaches want to put their stamp on the team and they want to build the roster to fit their scheme. The trick is not finding a coach who's willing to take on the job of rebuilding. The trick is finding the next great coach.

I can pretty much guarantee you that Jim Tomsula is not the next great coach.
