Kaepernick vs Gabbert post your arguments here!

Only one bad throw, although it was pretty bad. At least he made decisions unlike Kap who won't pull the trigger to either pass or run and ends up being sacked.

This was without Boldin and with a Torrey Smith who forgot how to catch the ball. And also guys off the street playing running back.

I would like to see what he does against Seattle though. It should be better than what Kap has shown.

CK actually did ok against Pitt in 2nd half; then came apart vs AZ. Giants ok, Ravens not so good, Seattle terrible - but they do that to our oline; Rams looked terrible again like he did against AZ.

Gabbert seemed to get a vanilla ALT today. Seattle will wreak havoc with the oline again.

If Gabbert can still make plays against the Seattle pass rush, then I'd bet CK is done in SF. If Gabbert gets killed, the experiment will continue between CK and Gabbert until one can string together NFL level play. I doubt either can do that and 9ers will be looking for a QB next year.

One game vs the career of a man who took us a play away from a title and a return trip to the Super Bowl is absurd. But maybe that is the difference. We know that Kap with the right coach, right system, and confidence is a tremendous talent. Is that here now? Should we wait to redevelop it? I say, yes. But I can understand the allure of Gabbert considering how Kap has played this year. The thing is the fan base wants to get back where Kap took us because they believe they can do it without him. Isn't that the same thinking the led to the end of the Harbaugh era?

Gabbert has earned the right to start after the bye. Let's go from there.

Considering the fact that Gabby hasn't played / started in a regular season game in a very long time, he was more than just solid for the team today. He had a full week of practice with the starters. Now he has a game under his belt. He'll have two weeks to watch film and practice to get ready for the Cawks. I'm not saying he'll win the game for us, but if our defense plays lights out again up in Seattle... we'll see.

Kap needs to get his head clear and learn from all this. He's been humbled. This has to sting. He heard the boos. I hope he can bounce back.

We prolly won't win up there or at home against the Cards, but as long as we stay in it w/out getting blown out, that would be an improvement and something to look forward to.

I still think we need to draft one of the top 3 QBs and beef up the oline. Who knows what will with happen Blaine / Kap next season...

AGREE 100% - CK's mobility is an illusion to some extent - even when he escapes the pocket teams are closing on him and shutting down his big plays. Pocket mobility is far more important at the NFL level - being able to slide up in the pocket and then out - Gabbert seems to have more pocket awareness to do this. When CK slides up he gets sacked - his only escape seems out the back wide.

AND there is almost no way to evaluate a QB behind this oline - you can only evaluate a few play types. There is almost no ability to evaluate truly seeing the field and working through progressions and looking off receivers. It's 1-2 reads and scramble drill.

Gabbert has nothing to lose. Same way Kaep was when he first started.

But Alex Smith has shown us that a QB can make a drastic turnaround when given some time.

The coaching staff should stick with gabbert in seattle to see who really is the better QB. Nothing to lose for us. We know what we get with Kaep and not sure with Gabbert. Gabbs earned another start

I'd also like to see Gabbert play with some decent weapons around him as well.

If today's performance is representative of what we should expect for the remainder of the season, then I'd say Gabbert is more productive than Kaepernick with a contract that's $12M less annually.

What I liked most about Gabbert is his pocket presence and ability to avoid sacks. Our O-line looked decent because he got the ball out quicker and he felt the pressure at the right angles and avoided them at the right time and way.

It's true. When the "Kap doesn't go through progressions" statement is made its pure ignorance. The 1-2 plays a game where protection holds up he doesn't go through those progressions because the human condition learns from past experience. he is looking for the free runner who is about to level him or strip it. I don't blame him for that.

Instead of hoping for better OL play, I want the ball out on time. regardless if the receiver is open or not which is where ball placement comes in and Gabbert seems to have an advantage here. Get it out on time.

I'm a huge ck fan, but I hope we go with the hot hand vs the seacocks

One more argument for Gabbert is that he hits receivers in stride. Huge difference in RAC yards!

All qb not named Manning or Brady should get benched at least once. Most of them will play very good after the benching. Gabbert seemed so appreciative of the opportunity to start in his presser.

Cost doesn't matter so much in this case. I'm assuming that if we were to keep Kaepernick, it would be with a significantly restructured contract.

Pros:
Gabbert's decision making and field vision are clearly better at this point. Gabbert is 26 years old. He has a very quick release.

Kaepernick has a proven winning track record. He has a stronger arm/faster legs.


Cons:
Gabbert has never won a playoff game.... or even had a winning season. He has occasional bonehead plays.

Kaepernick has never been good at pre and post snap reads.


Overall:
Too early for me to get on the Gabbert bandwagon. I want to see how he does against Seattle and Arizona with Hyde and Boldin in the game as well.
