You definitely don't Fire him now. That would make us even more a joke of a franchise. Do you think any HC would want to come here after we Hired Tomsula as "our guy" and then fired him before the freaking Bye week? Yea, great loyalty that would show to "their guy". This is the FO's cluster f**k. The only thing they can do now to save face is ride it out, and make changes in the off season. Firing Tomsula would do nothing to help this team.

Honestly, who didn't see this coming? I mean, I think most of us knew this was a bad move by the FO.

Still wonder why this team didn't hire Quinn. He would know how to beat the Hawks defense and know their personal weakness with certain coverage. He knows the rest of the division rivals well and could have enticed a few free agents who weren't scared off by a positional coach getting the reigns. I wonder if it was because he would have wanted to change the defense to a 4-3?

They had no choice but to hire him. Nobody from the outside wants this coaching job with this FO

I really really hope he doesn't do JUST enough to not get fired.
He's got to go along with the rest of the staff don't keep anyone!

At the end of the season, probably. Unless he manages to make a respectable showing during the rest of the season and buys himself more time, I don't want to waste another year.
right now ....if he is fired NOW , at least the interim head coach could make some changes to at least field a competitive team worth watching the rest of this season, who wants to watch a sputtering team with the same lineup and same weak ass offensive attack for 8 more games
In that case, my answer is a definite no. No one is going to come in here and win this season. We are going to suck for the foreseeable future.

We literally hired the worst guy possible. Asking "why did the team do this or that" is just too enfuriating to ask.

You don't fire him until the end of the season.
It's going to be a tough sell to prospective head coaches as it is but it'll be even tougher if they see the FO can a guy after just 7 games.
The season is dead at this point anyways so it's better to just be horrible for the rest of the season to get a better draft pick and to keep the pressure on Jed to make changes.
Being mediocre at this point and going 6-10 or 7-9 would be the worst possible scenario for the team.

Agreed. Fire him now? No, I wouldn't support that. As Bowman said, Tomsula was dealt a disastrous hand and he felt he's doing the best he can. During the season, we'll see what Tomsula can show in terms of changes to the team and such.
Maybe we bring in a consultant or two, I dunno. I always loved Tomsula as the DL coach and thought maybe he would do well as an HC. With all the players we lost, I knew it'd be rough, but I'm starting to doubt now that Tomsula is the right guy. This team still has the talent to win games and it shouldn't be getting embarrassed the way it has.
I seriously doubt JT gets fired before the end of the season, and he shouldn't. But after this season, if we finish with several more embarrassing efforts, the FO will need to make the call -- at some point, roster turnover just isn't enough of an excuse to cover the type of performances we've had.
It's clear as day Tiller is better than Devey, yet Devey continues to start.
It's clear as day the defense excels when we use man concepts, but fails mightily when we do zone, yet we continue to use the latter.
It's clear as day Kaepernick needs more snaps under center to throw timing routes because the OL can't protect. Instead, we go shotgun.
It's clear as day Dorsey isn't a great pass rusher, it should be Armstead in instead, but Dorsey remains in and can't catch the QB...
It's clear as day Patton won't change his bonehead mentality on the field until he's benched for it. But nothing is done.
So many little things add up in this league to making a talented team a bottom feeder. If we don't fix any of the above, we'll be lucky to go 4-12.

Yeah, no 1st year coach is going to get fired 7 games in. He's going to get the full season most likely, and depending on how these next 9 games go, he could very well be fired by years end.
It's too bad, I like Jimmy T a lot. Definitely one of the better d-line coaches in the league, and he should have stayed there. Should have been a long-time position coach for us, like Rathman. Instead he's going to be the fall guy for this mess.

He should not be fired. All that does is open it up to the interim coach to potentially stay. No. Blow up the staff. Hire a staff that inspires confidence from the team. Move on.

How about a demotion back to DL coach for the next incoming HC?

Agree 100%. Best changes we can make right now are to the starting lineups, particularly the o-line and d-line. This coaching staff has been too slow to identify who the better players are. Tiller is clearly better than Devey, why they continue rotating is beyond me. Armstead is clearly one of our 3 best d-lineman, he should be getting a lot more snaps. Would like to see what Brandon Thomas and Trent Brown can do at some point as well.
