That's because he keeps getting hit in the backfield.

OK, that's BS.

There were young players on every level of the defense yesterday playing very well. Lynch, Acker, Williams, Dial, Ward, Armstead...all had their moments against one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL.

I think the season really turned when Aldon and Anthony Davis left. Those were the biggest blows.

I agree with Sofa. I would make oline changes first before I'd bench a QB. It's been my experience that when a guy gets the Yips the WORST thing to do is blame him. QB, pitcher, kicker and any positions that requires touch and feel require a deft touch when handling them. It usually takes a a few brights spots in their game to get them right. If you bench them it creates a mental hurdle that's hard to reverse. We seem to be asking him to constantly change and to his detriment he's listening. He, IMO, needs to say f**k it and do what he wants not what others think he needs. Truth be told I'd have him reach out to Harbaugh because that's the LAST person that actually had him right and he trusts him.

Agree. Kap has been the worst starting QB in the league these past 2 weeks, but I'd like to give him an opportunity to snap out of this funk behind a better o-line. Make that change first and see what happens. I don't want to change QB unless you know it's for good. Don't want to play musical chairs like we did in 2010 under Sing, that was a joke.

Devey has been the weak link. I am not so sure that Brandon Thomas is ready based on what we saw in PS.

Center may get better if/when Kilgore gets back and is fully healthy. Martin will likely get better in time but...

Pears is OK but I would like to see Brown.

In the meantime, a QB who is capable of getting the ball out early is going to make the entire OL look much better.

Davis is the bigger loss, IMO. The timing was killer. There was no one available that late in the off-season. We are stuck with waiting for Trent Brown to develop...if he can. I love the guy. He was bulldozing people in the Houston game. Don't recall much since.
If we take more shots down the field then maybe Hyde would have more success. Right now opposing defenses are just pinning their ears and running right through our OL with no fear of getting beat over the top. We will know early how the Giants game will go with how we come out on offense.
My thoughts in random order:

1. Kap/OL - what else can be said that hasn't already?
2. Patton - thought he had a nice day. Love the end around and nice to see him get open on the shallow crossing pattern. We should run more of those.
3. Vance - yuck! Get your head in the game boy.
4. Lynch - probably the best player on the team of late.
5. DL - played solid but got worn down because they were on the field so long. Got some pressure on Rodgers which was encouraging.
6. Reid - I think he's playing scared. Seems to be very out of sorts and taking poor angles. Would love to see more of PopTart.
7. Boldin - Love him to death but my goodness he looks slow out there.
8. Acker - Despite having amazing speed, he's getting beat early off the line. Want to see more of Johnson out there.
9. Pinyon - Yuck. How can a professional punter be so inconsistent.
10. Ward - Best game by far from Jimmie. Finally looks like he's running with ease.

Aldon did not leave - he was RELEASED, and was never charged with a felony, and is now starting for the Raiders, chasing down QBs.
We have regressed to the time with Alex Smith where we cant throw the ball down the field. Defenses know this, and stack the line and jam the WRs. With our awful O-line and inaccurate QB there is nothing we can do. Wait until next year and draft O-line and hope to upgrade WR position in the draft/FA.

Its painful to watch actually.
1st down - run for 2 yards
2nd down - play action (which isnt fooling anyone) Kaep keeps it and loses a yard
3rd down - pressure in the pocket, down for a sack
PUNT
REPEAT

I see Patton has a concussion. I would cut him too. Too injury prone and small. I dont think any team looks worse than us right now. The only team without a win is the Lions, and i think they would smoke us.

He was the idiot who ran into another car and then fled. He'd been warned MULTIPLE times he couldn't screw up.

Of COURSE he was released. Anyone who thinks the 49ers had another option needs their head examined.

This is becoming repetitive...

1) Kap: I want to be careful here. I don't want to make it sound as if it's all his fault but I also don't want to scapegoat him and make excuses for him. There are issues all over the offense, but a big part of the blame for these last two performances falls on his shoulders.

I've never seen him look like this. After looking like he was taking a step forward in weeks 1 and 2, it looks like he is playing scared now. Throwing at peoples feet, throwing behind receivers, over throwing guys by 10 yards, standing in the pocket (when he has time) trying to go through reads, but completely unwilling to throw the ball or take even the smallest of chances. When he does decide to throw the ball, he throws late or inaccurately.

In short, he's looking more and more like the pre-2011 (or more accurately pre-mid 2010) Alex Smith. What is the most frustrating is that we've all seen him play so much better than this. "Defenses have figured him out". I really don't buy that one. Yes, teams have figured out what he's good at, but in 2012 he was NEVER this inaccurate. He'd fit the ball in tight spaces. He wasn't afraid to make a mistake. This isn't just a case of what defenses are doing to him. This is a player that appears to have lost all confidence in what he sees.

He looks paralyzed. He's stuck in his head. I don't know if there is a way out or if he's permanently damaged...but I for one think he needs to keep playing if for no other reason than to see if he CAN bounce back to see what they do next year and beyond at the QB position.

Kap has had way too many guys giving him instructions on how to perform. Harbaugh, Roman, Chryst, Logan, Warner and the spring QB instructor. What I want to see is the QB who played his game, followed the plays called and won against the Bears in his first game and was confident in his abilities.I'm not a QB but I have been in my trade a long time and new supervisors and training classes all teach you different ways to perform the same task and sometimes you just listen to these guys and have to laugh because what you do works well. He needs to tune out the voices and play his game and trust the way he used to play. He has had success but I really think his head is swimming trying to follow everyones advice.
Appreciate the work of the OP.

At QB, I kind of disagree with Marvin in that i believe it might not be a bad time for Kaepernick to take a seat on the bench for a game or two. At the end of the day the 49ers job here is to put the best product on the field they can and right now Kaepernick does not even look like an NFL back-up. In the meantime, Gabbert can have his shot. If you ask me Blaine was much more comfortable running the offense in the pre-season, is young in his own right and by all accounts has progressed well. If it blows up it blows up, but an organization can't tolerate that type of awful QB play for very long. Give CK a game or two to relax and regroup and then consider putting him back out there.

The offensive line is so bad i wouldn't even know where to begin. In case anyone had any ideas where next years 1st round pick is going...............

Encouraged by Armstead and Ward.

Hyde may be deserving of footballs version of a purple heart award. The poor guy is getting killed each week because the OL is letting defenders in unblocked on a regular basis.

especially after raymac's release, keeping aldon would have been inconsequent. hypocrisy!!!

Marvin, you realize Armstead played just 11 of 73 plays, according to Barrows.

Of course...but when he played he did something. Not bad for a guy who most expected to do NOTHING this season.

I also heard from reliable sources that the fight just a day earlier between Aldon and Kaep did happen, and that the FO and coaching staff contributed to it by constantly riding Kaep about being tougher and standing up more. Aldon is Bipolar and they pushed Kaep to confront him and the next day he drinks and loses it. Sounds nuts but this came from an agent involved. Maybe it's BS but the original source is a friend of mine who used to play pro ball and has connections

But whatever. Nothing is worse than watching Aldon run around in a Raider jersey knowing he was still eligible to play for the niners. Yes, it would have been crazy to have kept him, but crazy is better than 2-14 and another 9 year rebuild. Aldon is not sexual predator or a psycopath.

Sorry to hijack this thread, just so damn sick that we had only 3 good years and now back in the dumpster
