They don't need a guy for the next 5 years, they need someone to come in, play a few snaps this season and be effective.
Freeney may be up there in years, he's lost a step or two but he still had a very good season for San Diego in 2014. You could do a lot worse than him as a 3rd down pass rusher.

At 35, he's netted little attention on the open market, but his 40 quarterback hurries last season with the Chargers ranked third behind only Justin Houston and Ryan Kerrigan
After his 2013 season was cut short due to injury after just 0.5 sacks, he bounced back in 2014 to play in every game and record 3.5 sacks, also recording the third-most hurries and the sixth-most overall pressures (sacks, hits, and hurries) of any 3-4 outside linebacker in the NFL last year
