I can't see him joining the 53...yet. We only kept 6 WR's last year and that was with the idea of playing more spread offense to start the season. When looking at the total 53, I just can't find a spot for him...yet.
X: Torrey Smith; Quinton Patton, Jerome Simpson, Dres Anderson & DiAndre Campbell
Y (SLOT): Bruce Ellington; Darius Davis, Chuck Jacobs & DeAndrew White
Z: Anquan Boldin; Rory 'Busta' Anderson & Issac Blakeney (DeAndre Smelter)
So White isnt out playing Patton or Simpson
Well right now, the UDFA's are outplaying everyone...b/c some guys aren't getting many/any snaps like Patton, Ellington, minor work with Boldin, etc. In short, it's early BUT it's very encouraging news. The more competition and development the better. I think this, like CB, is going to be a VERY fun battle to watch!
I agree with you. It's way too early to tell if these guys are the real deal yet, but you definitely can't outperform starters if you are not excelling against 2nd and 3rd stringers. The fact White has looked so good is going to at least give him a legitimate shot and that's great news for SF. If Patton really was some uber productive guy he would have jumped out by now you'd think.
The guy I'm most interested in seeing in game action is Jerome Simpson as he could be a real difference maker. Sherman is going to pretty much nullify Torrey Smith, but can the other guys cause problems?
