There are 16 games in the regular season.

We play Seattle two times in the regular season.

Not quite sure how Sherman is going to "pretty much nullify Torrey Smith."

I could be wrong, but I see Torrey Smith more as a split end, lined up the other side of the field from Sherman. Don't think they'll be matched up too often.
It's tuff trying to get behind Earl on either side.

True, that's why I like how the team is trying to load up on vertical threats. Attack those deep zones. Go 3-wide, put Boldin in the slot, Smith and Simpson out wide, Davis down the seams. Only so much ground a single-high safety can cover.

Makes very little difference to the claim made.

Even if Sherman were to shut down Torrey Smith for two games, there is no way that means that Torrey Smith is nullified for the season.

Unless, Ii guess, you are a Seattle fan.

Most likely he doesnt make the roster, regardless of how good he looks in shorts. Every year people fall in love with players from hearing about them in OTA's and training camp, every year most of these guys end up amounting to nothing in the preseason.

Its fine to be excited about players but trying to allocate roster spots to guys that most likely wont make the team, all on the basis of practice reports(we talking about practice man), is really grasping at straws.

For the past few weeks Ive gotten to hear a lot about the Cards minicamp future HOFers and just like every year, 9 out of every 10 dont make the roster. When you have to go from 90 guys to 53 and you start with 30+ slots already locked up, a whole lot of people are going to go by the wayside, if they cant hack it in August, it wont matter how good they looked in May and June.

Out of all these UDFA's, I could see one at best making the roster and then holding on to one or two on the PS.

Also remember these UDFA's are playing with the 2nd and 3rd string offense so someone has to catch all those passes. Also they are going up against 2nd and 3rd string defenders, some of the d-backs they face are UDFA's as well. Let's wait and see how they do in pre season games. Like most have said, IF white does make it, it will be as the #5 or #6 WR.

Both Patton and Simpson have gotten great reviews in OTA's as well and they have gotten reps against our 1st team defense. So there's no way White passes Boldin, Torrey, Patton, and Ellington.

Don't really care how good they are in OTA's or padless minicamps. Doesn't mean $hit. Its glorified flag football. Doesn't matter what they do until July and August.

Soooo learning the playbook and getting reps executing those plays don't matter? Would you rather they look like crap in OTAs? It might not mean as much to look good now as opposed to July, but saying it doesn't mean $hit is pure ignorance

I think he means in the two games against SEA.

As always, the key to beat SEA won't be the WRs anyway. It is going to be first and foremost the run game and then Kap's ability to stand in the pocket and make the quick throws to the correct player on third downs.

But to answer his question, we got to rely on VD and Boldin to make a play or more Smith around.

Well right now, the UDFA's are outplaying everyone...b/c some guys aren't getting many/any snaps like Patton, Ellington, minor work with Boldin, etc. In short, it's early BUT it's very encouraging news. The more competition and development the better. I think this, like CB, is going to be a VERY fun battle to watch!

I like the news... Patton has been here for years and wondering why he is being played now... is there an issue in his game
I am referring to Beating Seattle and winning the division. My point is not that Torrey isn't going to perform well, rather that this teams issue has always been finding WRs in the passing game. If guys like Simpson can press the other teams secondary corners then the 49ers could have a productive offense.

He's been here for 2 years.... His 1st year he did play when he wasn't injured and made a few big plays for our team. Last year he couldn't move up the depth chart due to the veteran wr's being in front of him and lack of PT from our coaching staff. He still has potential to be a solid #3 WR on a NFL roster. His ceiling is a #2 but I think he will have a good NFL career as a #3. He is also a willing run blocker, I love his energy when he plays

x2, are we pulling sh*t out of our butt with this assessment of what Sherman is gonna do to T Smith? sure sounds like it
Something I don't quite understand.

Phillip Dorset getting big reviews, Amati cooper, and devanter Parker also playing at a high level. This is great, they are meeting expectations and I'm sure their fans are excited.

deandrew white is making the same kind of splash. He's out performing other rookies and making some good plays. If he was a 4th or 5th round pick, we'd be calling for him to beat out all for the #3 job.

If a guy shows up, he shows up. We've had other strong rookie performers before but we haven't had a wide receiver compete like this.

Just because he's undrafted doesn't mean his showing up in camp is a fluke. He could be the real deal...lets just wait it out instead of saying he's practice squad. Obviously he is climbing the ladder with his ability and consistency.
