Hey, not a bad choice. He did get absolutely abused both physically and mentally here. Certainly one of my favorite Niners.

I was kinda joking but you are correct. for the amount of s**t he has gone through he definitely has earned the right to be on this sort of list.

He ended up b***hing out and not compete for the starting position...demanded a trade

in his defense he never b***hed. you know that lol

Man, Steve used to hang him out over the middle so much I don't know how they were so cool. Seemed like at least a couple times a game Brent was getting head over heals blasted going across the middle.
Riki Ellison . . . not fancy but he was a baller and fun to watch.

Anquan Boldin

His goofiness made him look tougher than he probably had to be. Everytime he got tackled, he looked like he was gonna be broken and paralyzed, with arms and legs going everywhere.

1994 vs the Lions is considered the game in which inspired the 49ers to win the whole thing that year.
what happened in that game? are you sure you do not mean the eagles game that year?

This game was the next game after the PHI debacle and the Niners picked up where they left off in DET then got their act together. I vividly remember that game thinking the season was about to be over.

?
I think Garrison Hearst should be on the list. I know he had the ankle injury, but just being able to play again after that was pretty impressive. Tough to think what could have been if he had not been injured.
I'm going Alex Smith as well
This has to be Ronnie Lott. If there ever was an award pertaining to the parameters outlined by the OP, it has to be Lott.
The guy left everything on the field and was our backbone on defense during the glory days.

I think some people need a reminder, (watch on mute, music is annoying)

Anybody remember the hit Lott put on Woods in the SB against the Bengals? Talk about setting the tone

Ronnie Lott, Tom Rathman, Jerry Rice, Brent Jones, Frank Gore, Justin Smith, Keena Turner, Steve Young ect ect The list is endless.

One that stands out is TE John Frank. Against Lawrence Taylor he drived blocked him out of bounds. All the way out of bounds. Drove him over 15 yards from the snap to the whistle with no let up. He mad Lawrence Taylor his "little b***h". Best blocking TE I ever saw and a good receiver. That game earned him the "all Madden Team" honors. Taylor was so pissed off that Frank owned him he slapped him after the whistle in frustration for making him look so bad.

Still if I had to pick one it would be Lott just over Gore. Not only was Lott tough but at CB on a sweep to his side he would knock the pulling Guard out of the way and make the tackle. The only DB I have ever seen to consistantly out tough O-linemen

Holmes fumbles the ball, Lee Woodall scoops it up and takes it 94 (IIRC) yards for the score. Merton Hanks was like a pinball keeping the Bills from running him down. One of my alltime favorite plays.

Dan

i remember that, dan.

Classic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone mentioned Anquan Boldin, and he certainly deserves to be on the list, even though he hasn't been a long-time Niner. I'll never forget the shot he took against the Jets -- I was watching that game and thought he was done for the year after the hit. Boldin had a dislocated jaw, fractured sinus membrane and obviously a major concussion, yet in one of the the most miraculous things I have seen, after 7 plates and 40 screws and a wired jaw, he missed only two games and proceded to dominate after returning.
