that's honestly what I was thinking when i saw this dude, only without the sarcasm. give him some time and I bet he's great.

With his size I bet he's got no problem staying in to block, too.

championship pick
Vance McDonald has officially been put on notice. He better show something as a receiver, or he's done. The clock is ticking.

This dude Bell looks good. Big, tall guy with good movement skill and strong, natural hands. Instant RZ threat with the ability to be so much more.
Insertname....somehow i don't think gabbert makes the team this yr...but i like your thinking. Kap/x/ and blake, as in bell, that is.

Vance put himself on notice with his s**tty play. In this era of the NFL you need to be more than a glorified tackle as a TE, you need to be able to make offensive plays and catch the ball, hopefully this dude can be that guy.

How does this work when its the previous coaching staff that had him blocking most of the time. They took a dynamic college slot receiver and made him a fulltime blocker.

On the odd occasion that a pass actually went his way, if he dropped it, he didn't see another pass the rest of the game. If he caught it, he didn't see another pass the rest of the game, like in the 2013 NFCCG. What he needs is more regular targets, more opportunities to show he can make plays, not a pass thrown his way once every other game.

This is where Seattle's coaching staff was far superior to the 49ers previous staff, developing players on offense. The previous staff didn't seem able to develop a WR or TE to save their lives.

1. Size: We want BIG, athletic players
2. Projects: There will be a lot of emphasis on coaching and player development.

If Balke's vision comes into fruition, this will be one hell-of-a draft class!

Absolutely this. Good insight/perspective!

The best thing about this pick is that we don't need to carry more than 2 QBs. Bell could come in if Kaepernick and Gabbert both got hurt.

Another great point!

I've heard this argument many times here in NT and I don't really buy it but you could be right. Maybe Vance is a stud pass catching TE and he was just completely misused by the previous staff, If that's true then he will easily retain his job as the #2 TE. I don't hold any personal animosity towards Vance, I just don't think he's a talented receiver but if he proves me wrong that's great too. May the best TE win the job.

I watched a couple of his vids and he's pretty raw as a TE but he adds amazing value as a read option QB in goal line, 2 point and short yardage situations. This guy could limit our QBs chances of injury if we use him in those situations.

I don't see how you couldn't, the previous staff seemed quite content to keep guys on offense playing as few snaps as possible until their hand was forced either through injury or free agency. Roman came out and said that they were more concerned with Vance blocking them involving him in the passing offense, meanwhile Seattle found ways to use his less talented Rice understudy in Luke Wilson in their passing game.
