martin is a kid who missed alot of time in his first nfl season,, but got better. sure thomas has not even taken a snap but he was chosen for a reason. everyone who was hurt last year on the o line including anthony davis, who never got hurt before,, are back, j martin is gone, boone is not holding out. i think the future looks very young and promising on our o line,, yes,,, i have faith that thomas will come in here , take that left guard spot and be a rock for us. its just a feeling i have, if i am wrong, i will admit it because i have no agenda , ax to grind or ego to bruise. i only want what is best for the team and i think the current collection of guys we have on the line, plus maybe add another kid/vet is a real positive for us moving forward

With you on Thomas.

IMO, Kilgore is our present AND future Center.

I'm thinking Martin will be groomed for RT.
In OTC's draft analysis of centers he said that Cameron Erving was a future pro bowl player. If he is still on the board at 15, do we draft him and shake up the O-line giving us many options and a center that will be a mainstay for 10 years?...

Precisely! Which is why some pundits didn't rank him #1 center last year. He had #1 talent but needed development. But to bad mouth any second year player as a bust, let alone an OLman...

no we have a good center and martin is a good back up in that area. kilgore can be a mainstay
No reason to think both guys won't be key OL players. Thomas had 36 starts at Clemson at LT & OG. MM was a stud at U SC & got his feet wet duringthe season.
I hope we draft lineman high.

Staley Davis and Illupati (for his first two years ) were clutch a f.

True Martin was a rookie but MANY rookie centers have instant success and solid play. I thought he would but he did aweful. He was regarded as the best or second best center in the draft but did not perform. Simple. Yes he was injured in preseason but him being bad at pass pro and getting little to no push in the run game is troubling. Kilgore is way better at this point and hopefully Martin can take over for Boone next year

I wouldn't mind seeing ustrade up for Scherffe. He might be the best player in this draft and if we can jump in front of the Rams or Giants we could land the drafts best lineman.

i've been mulling over for my Mock - Tre Jackson in the 3rd or 4th

I feel like our interior line play/play calling were the reasons we didn't get to the playoffs this year. Trading up for Scherffe, stand pat and potentially get Lael Collins or trade back and get cam Erving would all be good moves. Any one of those guys could come in right away and play LG allowing B Thomas to compete with Boone.
I'm confident that in 2 years Thomas will be better than Iupati and Martin will be in the probowl.

He was taken in the 3rd round because he wasn't perceived an immediate starter. Not his fault he was pressed into service due to injuries. But it was believed that he would become an excellent starter...hang in there with him. Boone and Kilgore are much older.
