Can he become a better QB. Everybody has an opinion. If he can do it on the field that will answer all questions. If he can't he could still make a great living as a backup for the next 8-10 years.
He'll definitely need a good OLine, either if he wants to continue with the style he was originally successful with, or if he wants to work on his mechanics like he did with Kurt Warner without getting hit so much, so that it becomes second nature to him.
That whole 'not big on mechanics' thing has always stuck in my head about him though. I don't even care about his throwing motion since Harbaugh mentioning not wanting to mess withit reminds me of my time in orchestra. Brass instructors typically won't bother with your embouchure too much at a certain point in your development since it's already ingrained in you, and if you can play well otherwise, then more power to you. The basic mechanics of everything else are still vital however, and working hard while ignoring those won't equate to improvement, and you'll likely only get worse.
I'm not so much interested in
if he's going to get better since he's likely leaving the team, but
how he's going to get better. Is a team going to build him a stellar OLine so he can go back to doing what he did before, or is he going to work hard on his mechanics and everything Warner went over with him so that he can develop his pocket passing abilities further? I find it hard to believe he didn't take notes from Warner, so that he could continue working on everything they went through together without Warner still needing to be there, so it's not like he doesn't have what he needs to teach himself from here on out.
