I think you need to figure out the difference between an excuse and an explanation. If you're looking at a sample size of 50 Super Bowls, and you don't see ANY team winning when the other team scores 34 points, there is really only one conclusion and it's not an excuse - it's an explanation for why the Niners didn't win that game - DEFENSE.
Sorry, that's not an explanation that's an excuse. As I said the Niners were first and goal on the five yard line with a chance to win and not much time left on the clock. At that juncture I don't see how the defense even enters into the equation. The fact that they gave up 34 points is meaningless. The offense was on the field with a chance to win and they didn't do it and Kaepernick with his rocket arm and all his athleticism couldn't find a way to get them five yards on four chances. As I said, in my book that's the only argument that matters.
Learn something new every day. I didn't realize that Kaepernick was calling his own plays at that point in the game...
Oh, so now its the coaches fault for calling the wrong play. Good to know that Montana would have had an excuse if he had missed the throw to Clark in the end zone. "oh, Bill called the wrong play so it wasn't my fault". Championship QB's find away to win when the game is on the line. The ones in this forum who have gone all in on support of Kaepernick keep insisting that he is a championship caliber QB because he won some play off games and got to the Super Bowl with the help of the QB who preceded him and the talent of a pretty darn good team. My position is that championship QB's win championships and that Kaepernick has not demonstrated that he is a championship QB and I don't personally believe that he has what it takes to ever be one so I don't see the logic in the Niners continuing to waste time on him. Except as some sort of stop gap until a real QB comes along. But then they could do exactly the same thing with Gabbert. It would cost them less money and they might actually win a few more games. But that's just my opinion.
The final four plays of the lost Super Bowl are on everyone. Bad play calls + bad execution + a burned time out on the play that probably would have won the game (QB power to the left) = a loss.
They crumbled in the crunch. It is what it is. Stop blaming and realize that it was just an unfortunate way to end a close game.
