Did you just imply $11.9M in cap space means nothing? Ummm...what? That is a VERY significant amount of space. We didn't have extra space last year as Baalke was gearing up to pay Aldon $90M and Anthony Davis hadn't of quit yet. Torrey Smith was about all we could muster for quality signings.

The fact that the FO has not communicated once to CK during this entire hiring process also speaks volumes.

Most here don't HATE CK by any means but are objective enough to look at teams needs over the love for just him.

From a FO perspective, they may be looking at Gabbert as a slightly better option at 1/6th the cost. That's just business. Nothing more.

Sure we're in position to afford a $12M backup (worst case scenario).

But if they are serious about signing some big names at RDE, OLB and WR or CB, that cap disappears really quickly.

I think your LOVE for CK is trumping a potential business decision. One that may be best for the team.

Also, don't forget CK signed a "prove it" contract. Every year he either proves it and earns maximum money or we can cut him. Asking him now, AFTER he was benched, to restructure down to a more cap friendly but more secure contact, isn't unreasonable. It's smart business.

He is making 11.9M so where are you getting cap space from? Please tell me how Kaep's salary limited the team this season and how it will limit it next season. Please, explain that to me young man.

Well, we did lose a number of free agents last year, and we only had extra cap space after the retirements and cutting Aldon, which was 9 mil. So, yeah, Kaep's high cap figure this year prevented us from signing a tip tier guard or pass rusher or corner or retaining some players. The deal is, it hurt the team because he was being paid as a top quarterback amd didn't play anywhere close to a top quarterback. When you pay a qb that much, the thought it, the player is good enough to make up for the players you wouldn't be able to sign if you didn't pay that player. However, ck's cap figure is one reason his o-line wasn't better (not the only, I'm not blaming him for that whole mess). But, when you put more eggs in your QB basket than anywhere else, your QB better play really well- or at least be functional and not throw 2 pick 6's in 10 min, or miss a wide open receiver, or one hop throws, or faIL to read slant/flat, or study more film.... just sayin

Dude really. He took the most team friendly contact for a QB in years, to allow the resigning of the likes of Crabtree and Iupati. We played this year $10m+ under the cap, his cap hit is average for a QB in the league and you're blaming this for why we didn't spend on oline??

We carried a cap hit for A Davis this year as well even though he was retired, we paid Devey and Pears as well and you're laying the cap hit on Kap as to why we didn't improve the oline? That's reaching buddy, the Packers, Broncos and Patriots pay top dollar to their QB and still maintain a very good line.

Well its a good thing he did that and we were able to re-sign both Iupati and crabs...oh wait....

Also, his cap hit was over 15 mil last season, we had 10+ after Willis retired, who was either 8 or 9 mil cap figure (can't remember how much dead money was involved) and Aldon's 9 mil was off the books as well. Those things happened after it mattered to acquire talent. IF CK had played at 15 mil qb level, it would've been worth it, hit he didn't...not anywhere close. The issue isn't whether or not CK could be on a team or this team, it's about the price paid to keep him there. In the NFL every dollar paid to a player costs more than money, it's resources you can't use on something else. Last season, CK showed that money was poorly allocated- he wasn't worth 15 mil. While it's not in the top 10 of qb's for pay, it's still just under Carson palmer and Andy Dalton and ahead of tom brady(his cap figure was 6.5 mil less than kaeps, so you're argument about the pats is incorrect), Andrew luck, marcus mariota, nick foles and Sam Bradford. All of which played better at qb than he did this last season.

I never said he was the only reason we couldn't improve our talent pool, just saying it was part of it. Also, your claim about it being a, "team friendly" deal, that was for the first year so they could use funds on a Championship run, but now, his high cap figures are kicking in. After April 1st of this year, his contract won't be, "team friendly" for 2016 as he'll be guaranteed to count over 15 mil against the cap.
His contract was more of a, "prove it" deal. They knew his shortcomings then and put the onus on him to improve those, if not, they had an out- it was a smart contract as the case has sbown, he's shown that those deficiencies haven't improved, so they now have the possibility of hacking out with little damage done to the cap.

I applaud you for your rational responses Jonnydel, it's refreshing how you can get your point across without getting all emotional and acting childish. Hard to argue with something that is concrete and not full of emotional options.

Can't wait to see who stays / who goes.

I don't really care if Kap stays or goes, but if he stays, I'll cheer for him and hope he doesn't suck off AGAIN!
If we had the option to pay Kap what he was worth this year, it would have probably only been the $150 it costs to buy a brand new Hoover at Target. Because he sucked.

Cam standing in the pocket throwing all over Seattle. The kid has taken the next step to be a dangerous passer. We need Kap to follow that progression.

And if it was up to a lot of the 9er fans here last season, Cam would have gotten traded or cut. Luckily for him he had a good HC, OC and QB coach, along with a great offensive scheme built to his strengths. I have followed Cam closely. The hate he received last year and still to this day reminds me a lot of the hate Kaep has received. Even today he got some hate.

Kaep sure does make a lot of people angry.
Since Baalke has been GM, the QB contracts he gave out have been basically one year deals.

He did it with Alex (Basically 3 one year deals) and the same with Kaepernick. Who is to say that is not how he prefers to go about contracts for QBs? Maybe that is also what he offered Peyton Manning that one offseason when Manning chose the Broncos' huge offer.

Also, it is hard to find good QBs who can win in the playoffs. Do some of yall believe that if Kap chose to play out the last year of his contract, that he wouldn't have gotten a huge guaranteed contract that was better than the 9er offer? Even after that 2014 performance?

He would've got a big payday from one of the many desperate teams. (as well as teams that just needed a QB to make a stronger push into the playoffs. Texans, Jets, Bills, Rams) or being Tagged by the 9ers. Some seem to make it seem like he had to settle for this contract.

Kaepernick had 3 good games (Vikings, Giants, and Ravens) Games where we won or was close to winning. Not like games where the other team basically gave us wins toward the end (Bears, Rams)

and sucked for 4 games.

If he was healthy, he might have played more games....since it wasn't like Gabbert was winning us games..let alone playing well when it counted. Coaches would've went back to Kaepernick.

so worth alittle more than $150

Ok, maybe a Dyson.
Anyone see Vernon sitting on the bench during the game today? Another "weapon" Kaep was accused of not utilizing.

Please change that to Kap fans, they are the only ones that go out of their way to rip on other QBs. So you are ripping on your own kind here.
