I think he's more or less of product of the turmoil that was going on within the team for a variety of reasons. I won't forget the success that he had and it wasn't just running. He can throw with the best of them when he is on. But, he lacks consistency with that all too often. He's also lost his desire to run when needed because he's forcing himself to stay in the pocket and be a passer. Run while you can young man is what I say. My biggest gripe about him is probably what is most damning for him. I think he's mentally week. He doesn't have a short memory and it effects his play after a bad play. He becomes really hesitant which paralyzes him. Early on it wasn't that way. that first playoff game against Green Bay, he could have folded after the pick 6 but didn't. He had confidence then.
I think he can be fixed, I think he can still be dangerous but what the knew staff needs to build is his confidence. Yes, he should be further along in his progress. He's not. Harbaugh protected him with play calling, etc. Tomsula and Baalke hung him out to dry this last year and now Kelly will be tasked with doing to Kap what Harbaugh did to Alex. Rebuild a broken part.
We. shall. see.
I have to disagree with you. Because the main strength he had was he had a short memory. GB playoff game threw a pick 6. He forgot about it and had a great game. That would destroy so many guys. Look at Hoyer self destructing last week.
Kaep was always able to have a short memory. In addition, a mentally weak guy does't come back against good teams in the playoffs.
Is he broken now? For sure, but to say he's mentally weak? I disagree wholeheartedly. He just needs some support as does every player who's struggling. I think a lot of fame came to him quickly and he thought things were always going to be easy and that got to him. Didn't help that his team around him got worse very year. We will see what happens though. I don't even know if he will be given a chance to turn it around given the way this fanbase is. If not, hope it happens somewhere else.
