It's a back up...no exactly sure what people expect here.

A backup just days from the season. Just noting he fits right in with the kinds of transactions we make for depth. Loooooooong list of these guys.

You opinion on this is almost comical at this point, you complain we do nothing, you complain when we do something, you complain and complain and offer zero in terms of what you would have done better. You keep the negativity going in this thread almost singlehandedly just to prop up old arguments and move goal posts constantly. Not much to offer you at this point because nothing will matter, nothing that was realistic and could actually have been done would have made you content...it is abundantly clear.

Literally, the message I have been sending out since 2014 is to prioritize the OL the same way they have the DL. And every year fans like you defend these "moves" and we end up right back where we started. There is a reason this thread is 970 pages and it isn't because of me.

But keep up the Faith.

You should go on record with your faith in this OL and depth and revisit mid season.

All that money and they still gave up 8 more sacks than the 49ers horrible, worst of all-time OL last year.

They were bad last year. Not sure why honestly. They haven't been the same OL for a couple years now.

Frederick was out the Whole year and I believe Smith missed a chunk too.
They have 2 O linemen on the practice squad and are bringing in another guy with experience who is only 28. One or all of these guys may eventually see action this year so at least they are getting some depth at a position of weakness. Once they get some work in this system they may very well get promoted even if someone isn't injured if the coaches think they are even a little better than what we now have on the roster.

Sure, why not. We're fans. We can opine on *everything.*

That's the joy of being a fan, my friend!

If these are the guys they may have to lean on, it's too bad we couldn't have picked them up early and train them in our system and try them out in pre season games to see how they did. But something is better than nothing!

Thanks. I don't follow them because eff the Cowboys. Appreciate that.

The state of OL play in the NFL in general is garbage. Too few good linemen for far too many teams.

It's a cute phrase that keeps getting thrown around but is there any actual proof of this compared to any other position?

I'm actually asking everyone this because I see it all the time.

Is talent really any less these days or just less developed and refined due to the spread systems and players coming out early?

Well if they aren't getting the skills and practice in College, its harder for them to transition to the Pro level isn't it?

Well then the coaching must suck in Dallas.

That may be our problem since we have such a good O-line to, our coaching is also sub par.
If the talents there for us and Dallas, then what other problem can it be, it's either coaching or talent (or scheme, but our players are hand picked for our scheme)and you guys are saying our talents here.

It can be all kinds of things (like I keep saying)...I don't think anyone truly thinks they lack in talent on the OL (Dallas). Collins is super overrated IMO. I mean do we think Dak is a great QB? Do we think he might hold onto the ball too long? How about their WRs? They had trash at the skilled position most of last yr, until Cooper showed up.

Also like you said coaching plays a part along with play-calling, which IMO is subpar.

MY point all along is you can have $50+ million (per yr) and top picks invested into the OL and still be s**t without some of the other things I brought up. Dallas proved that last yr.

I have been pretty clear that I think we will be average starters and we need depth....what I don't do is respond to every post for 970 pages with a negative comment and nothing constructive to add.

I've heard Greg Cosell comment that O line play in college is hard to evaluate for a lot of teams because the type of blocking in the uptempo college game is so different. They need to know a lot more in the NFL and need to be able to hold blocks longer. Very few teams take snaps from under center in college which has become pass, pass, pass for so many teams. Just like QB's that need to adjust to taking snaps under the center, the lineman need to learn new blocking techniques. The talent isn't necessarily worse, it just needs to be re-trained.

Smith only missed 3 games. TF did miss the whole yr, almost like having a center out there with a torn quad for 13 games
