Depth needs to be addressed in the draft and FA. Bring new OG's, backup center, and somebody at swing T.

If Garnett is healthy they'll be fine. He looked solid for the time he was in there. Shon Coleman has some experience at guard so you could see him pop up there in the future once he has the offense figured out.
+1
Joshua Garnett: Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

This IMHO, is a HUGE fail by Lynch and Shanahan. Garnett limped through preseason. You're so worried about Gilliam that you traded to bolster his replacement. Person wasn't at all very good in preseason. The likelihood of this scenario IMHO was high, just like they were anticipating Gilliam not finishing this season because of his 3-week concussion protocol. When Magnuson went out, they should have at least traded for an OG who could play at least as a fill-in so you don't move the rookie.
Garnett struggled with a knee bruise in preseason, but played very well the last two preseason games. Person impressed throughout preseason with his reliability and familiarity with the scheme. Magnuson went down with a hammy and will be on IR for what--eight weeks? Coleman and Tobin were picked up to add depth. Seems like every reasonable move was made to help in the rebuilding of the o-line--perhaps the most difficult unit to successfully mold on any football team.
It was a tough day today against a very tough opponent--but we all knew it is going to take several weeks for the o-line to develop the chemistry that is needed.
One game and some bitter disappointments, but not fair to completely condemn JL and KS for their efforts in rebuilding the o-line.
To the contrary one has to be impressed by the athleticism and guts displayed by McGlinchy today--which shows that shanny and lynch made a wise decision in drafting him at #9 and dumping Brown. imho,

LOL, Brown completely shut down Clowney as a LT for Tom Brady and McGlinchey gave up a sack and the immediate pressure on JG's final INT. The kid is gritty and talented but has a long ways to go. And given he had to slide inside to G is all you need to know about a fan's OL concerns today. We went skinny on the OL and we're paying for it now, one week in.

Yeah. JG couldn't step up and plant as a defender was hitting him in the knees.
He gave up the sack at RT and instant pressure inside at G for the final INT.

This, some of these fans are relentless. That's like asking a center to play emergency tackle against a dline as ridiculous as Minnesota'sOriginally posted by RabidNiner:He's a rookie, never played guard in his life and had to step into that position against one of the best front 7's in football.Originally posted by NCommand:Originally posted by RabidNiner:Originally posted by NCommand:LOL, Brown completely shut down Clowney as a LT for Tom Brady and McGlinchey gave up a sack and the immediate pressure on JG's final INT. The point is Kyle and Lynch should've been concerned when we had a bunch of hurt guys all pre season. We had s**t depth and literally ran through all of it in 60 minutes.

Only the most casual 9er fan would have seriously expected a fault-free game today, on the road for a home-opener against a bona-fide SB contender.
And I do not care how well Brown played or did not play for NE today. Time to let go of the love affair some had for Brown--he's no longer a Niner! Thank goodness.

I don't think that point was made at all. Sounded like we were just clowning on a rookie because he had to slide over to Guard against the best front seven in football. The concern about preseason injuries are definitely valid, but how many R Guards are we supposed to dress?
