Maybe he's actually hurt. If it is the knee that he hurt last year, I could understand why they'd be cautious with it.

I know there's been a lot of talk about how good the pass rush has looked, does anyone know if that's because bad OL play? I haven't seen much reported about how our OL looks, specifically our starting unit

I was thinking the same thing!

so I see Chris Biderman talked about moving Tomlinson to RG--where he played in college and at Detroit before he was traded to the 9ers--and playing Cooper at LG--where he played for Dallas last year.

I brought this idea up for discussion a month or so ago. It just makes sense to me--Play Tomlinson next to the rookie RT to help strengthen the right side of the line and play Cooper at LG next to Staley and you don't lose anything on the left side.

Garnett would then back up Tomlinson and Cooper til he gets his stuff together--or gets traded. Can't make the club in the tub.

I think Garnett is going to be OK. He's day to day (supposedly) vs AA who (I think) is out a week to two weeks with a hammy? There's still a long way to go until the first game of the regular season. There is still also the cut down day to the 53. That's going to be a day they'll load up on promising guards if they need it.

Totally agree

Hoping JG can stay healthy until they do.

just imagine if the 49ers traded Staley last year like half the board was contemplating.....

we got lucky Staley has stayed healthy and not end up as trade fodder in some sort of rebuild.

That's pretty amazing. I'm thinking this is mainly from his time at C and T? How much has he played at G? When the Niners drafted him they had him mostly at T if I remember correctly.
