Yeah, he'll probably be on the 53...the question is whether he'll make the active 46.

I'm hoping he surprises us all.

BUT, I'm not betting on it.

Interesting that PFF has 49'ers OL with Garnett G rated at 16th coming into the pre-season. Middle of the pack is not good enough, but hopefully they will be closer to top ten after they've jelled in the pre-season. https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Niners-Offensive-Line-got-Beat-Up-vs-NFC-West-in-2017-488108771.html

Confession....

Rewatched just the first series in the Jaguars game again in slow mo and I'm starting to see why we extended Tomlinson, traded Kilgore, didn't resign Fusco and released Beadles. That game ... the right side of the OL starting with Kilgore was consistently terrible. Granted it's against one of the better DL in the NFL, but the left side was night/day better. I know Beadles shouldn't be starting at all but Kilgore and Fusco weren't even always looking in the right direction. They had no idea how they were being attacked. Very interesting series.

Ah, GM we all have our misses. On the OL, tho, i was sure we were keeping Trenton. Wrong...wrong in spades. Kyle wants his running game and then can use that in his passing game. But on the other front, re:Beatles, Fusco, and Kilgore...that one i got right. I know they must have had some high points and good games, individually , but i never saw any of it. Those three just looked miscast playing OL. So there i was certain they were gone this yr. But i was eve more certain big Trent would be here this yr and on into the future. And that one was REALLY bad wrong. Some of that was just thinking with my heart, not my head, as i loved the big guy. Loved his strength, wipe out pass blocks, wipe outs on downfield blocking for runs.... but i neatly missed the "not getting to second level" as well as the weight deal...and kyle likes his guys svelte.

But good news, GM , is look how many, many things you got right. And that's why we watch this wonderful game. The past 20 yrs has been a mind blur, and thank God I can hardly remember any of it. But waking up in the a.m. and reading news on JimmyG, Kyle and JL, our virtual new 51 players from 2 yrs ago....and it all happened seemingly overnite. OL is where the action is for many of us, me included. Weston is W for wonderful. Joe is Joe. McG was best OT in college this yr...but he is GREEN. Hopefully some of that wears off in camp and PS. But nobody expects him to walk out there as an all pro OT from the gitgo.. i do hope he protects our franchise, however, or this is going to be one long season. Us line guys will be watching how our two OGs play and my hope is Laken does his job ...and well. On the other side...let's hope for adequacy, and then go from there. We got three back ups, but who knows what any of them puts out there on the field. I am hopeful that Garnett returns as a rook, really, and shows us why he was the best college lineman his last yr in college. My mistake is out there also, except in New England, playing for BB. I wish him well and hope he comes around. But not for us...it will be for the new team. I still am reminded of big Trent every time the O is on the field, but the big 77...he ain't there. Shucks...and my favorite player, to boot.

For you, not seeing those three guys out there is a relief. I think that's the better of the two bets for us two.
Good luck right side of the OL.

I wasn't going to answer that but jeez, what an ugly thot. And we play them early. ugh.

Garnett + Rookie RT = scares me a bit the first 5-6 games right out of the gate.

To say the least.

One of the things I like about McG is he is smart.

His first 3-4 games will certainly be Baptism by Fire.
Sadly, Aaron Donald was the only one Tomlinson blocked last year...somewhat joking.

Ingram is a stud, and dont mean to get off topic but that inside move is how I see ST having success when lined up on the outside. Dont want to compare them at this point but its much easier to envision him being successful on the edge with a move like that over the standard dip & rip speed rushes.

Better the right side be inexperienced than the left. I'm hoping Richburg is better both physically and mentally. If he can call better adjustments it will help both OGs tremendously. As far as McG is concerned I expect Shanahan to use TEs, FB, RBs and play calling to help him adjust to the NFL...just depends on his strengths at the start of the season. JG gets rid of the ball so quickly that will help as well. He has an elite release, helping receivers and pass protection.
This is true, and better to see the guy you can see than the one you can't. That said, in at least 3 of jimmy's games, he showed an amazing proclivity to unload the ball just before someone tagged him from the blind side or more commonly from behind. In the latter case he was on the run. But no question he has the "it" that Joe had...that sixth sense that someone was just about to clobber him and he lets it fly. Jimmy has already shown that ability. So yes, being able to protect better on the blindside is the better way to start, but Jimmy has that sixth sense...unfortunately he may need it the first half dozen games or so. I hope not but think that's in the cards.

And the TEs, FB, RBs all better be used by kyle to protect if needed. I'm just afraid kyle will have them all out on routes.
Sounds like Garnett started and stayed with the 1's today...not splitting with Person this time. Cooper working off on the sides.

PFF has SF as the 16th ranked OL...that's not too shabby. they also stated they have the most potential to outplay their current ranking.

Ok, NY, you gotta like that.. wonder how they assess "most potential to outplay current ranking"?

The most likely guy is Garnett, just based on time here, knows blocking assignments, but Person and Cooper are pretty much unknowns, so who knows when we will get a read on them.
Back to the regular rotation for Garnett and Person at RG.
