Two part question:

1. Who is the back up for Joe Staley at LT?
2. How much does that scare you?

1. Alex Boone
2. Not one bit
Interesting article on Brandon Thomas - I had no idea that his Mom had died.

Teams that look great in pre season often fall on their faces during the season.
If not over this, there will be something they will complain about. That is the only sure thing about of this weekends game ... there will be thousands of 'glass if half empty' posts next week. Tons of things cited as fact that will be pure conjecture by people that really don't know squat. Same as it ever was ....

How much better would the line be if we acquired Evan Mathis on a one or two year deal? Would the O line even be better?

I think yes, by a decent margin. The only lineman I trust is Staley.

In emoticons, our O line is as follows......

I don't want Mathis

Yeah, she died last year, while he was rehabbing. Cancer, iirc. f**king cancer, kicking a dude while he's down.

This.
We don't want the best guard in football??? Makes a lot of sense. Even if we paid him 5 mil a year for 2 years it would be well worth kap and the offense improving with this pickup while giving m Martin Thomas and looney time to develop.

As nice as it sound having the best guard in football be on this team, Mathis is looking for a payday this is the same guy looking to get paid $8.5 Million this year. If he agree's to take less money then sure why not? I doubt that tho or else he'd have a job by now. IMO i'd rather save the money to sign our own guys or carry it over for next year and get couple of nice FA.
After saturday night the 49ers BETTER RUN to Evan Mathis. That whole right side is a disaster. M Martin Eric Pears

How do you know Pears is terrible in this scheme?

Was going to ask this and then decided whatever...

Any word on Brandon Thomas? He was a 3rd round pick.... He needs to start producing. If not, Baalke shouldn't get a pass for this pick. I think he was brought into play guard.

I agree. Balke gets MAJOR PASSES and I don't know why? He's made some Very SHODDY picks the last 3 drafts (2012,2013,2014) when the 49ers had a TON of picks and not many have contributed much of anything. To me, thats where the window closed. Balke Failed to get game changers with the schitload of picks the 49ers had in 2013 and 2014. Instead we get the Vance McDonalds and Jimmie Wards of the football world.

lol, every GM makes picks that don't turn into anything. But your evidence of Ward, McDonald, and Thomas are the only thing that's shoddy. These guys haven't really had a chance to show their worth. I would concede that McDonald hasn't looked great catching the ball, but he also hasn't been put in a situation to succeed. Maybe we should give the young kids a chance and see how this team performs before we start judging Baalke on his drafting ability.

LOL how are any of our rookies suppose to beat out all of the stacked vets that have been on the team the past 4 years??? How are they going to get any reps when the old coaching staff hated playing rookies?

Please explain all of that to me Elephant? We haven't been the Raiders or Jags the past 4 seasons and didn't need rookies to come in an be starters day 1...so because Vance was well behind Davis (only got one target a game) his rookie year and hurt year 2, he's a bust? Ward played in six games before getting hurt...it's WAY to early to throw in the towel on these YOUNG players.
