At worst, the oline plays as bad as last year (JG can still win with that).

Upgrading the center was huge and getting rid of Beadles doesn't hurt one bit.

Jimmy will feel it out by preseason and get by till the chemistry settles in (very smart guy).

This makes way too much sense for 49erswebzone LV

People wanna know if our O-Line will be good enough to get us in the playoffs... I don't ask for a lot, but this is my message to Shanny...
Cooper not helping himself with his injured knee.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the new group. Losing weight doesn't suddenly make someone a better player. No guarantees that a rookie hits the ground running. If Cooper plays average, it will be an improvement. There will be a minimum of 3 new starters on the OL. If it takes chemistry and cohesion to function as a good group of five, then it will take some time to get them playing well together provided they are competent as individuals (Garnett, Cooper, McG).

I'm betting they suck in the first and second regular season games, and start to get in synch in the 3rd game.

They will tested right out of the gate - Vikings is the opener.
Same rotation at RG.

Also rotating were right guards Mike Person and Joshua Garnett. Person began the practice with the first-string offensive line, Garnett was there toward the end of the session.

Sucks that Cooper won't be ready until training camp. I'm hoping Cooper can live up to his draft position in this offense.

Yeah, we badly need one of these guys to reach their potential (Cooper or Garnett).

...or Tomlinson. Of course Cooper living up to his would be the best result as he was a highest pick out of the lot.

Exactly...sounds like he's got LG locked down but yeah, is he going to reach his full potential?

Do you know If any of the teams cooper has been with ran a similar scheme?

by draft position he should be the best player out of the guards, plus he didn't play too bad last year for the cowboys and if he starts he is besides richburg and staley, which is nice.

Agree

Also, if AA and Ward lived up to their draft positions - we'd be ferocious.

Talking about just run schemes, I believe ARI ran lots of power concepts with Bruce Arians. Hue Jackson in CLE also runs lots of power concepts. DAL runs a mix of everything and I think I read somewhere that DAL is where Cooper was considered competent. Maybe it's because DAL ran more zone stuff than ARI/CLE, or maybe it's just because he played next to better players.

I liked Kilgore but the upgrade to Richburg should really help the OGs in both pass defense and the run game. As far as communication goes, the OGs have been playing musical chairs for several years so continuity was never possible. With the return of most of the OGs and the addition of Cooper this team should be better on the OL. Having Beadles as a placeholder kept the team from finding a starter...or probably kept them from being worse than they might have been due to his experience. Person might contribute to that but something tells me he is there to help the young guys learn during TC.
Person gonna win that RG spot at 29 years old.

Mike Person (formerly with Indianapolis)
Pass-blocking efficiency – 98.8

After coming off the board in the seventh round in the 2011 NFL Draft, Person has bounced around the league with very little to show for his journey, as he played just 69 total offensive snaps in his first four years in the league (2011-14). However, he was given the opportunity to start at center for the Indianapolis Colts in place for the injured Ryan Kelly in 2017, and he made the most of the opportunity.

Person allowed just three total pressures (three hurries) in 194 pass-blocking snaps at center in 2017, good for the third-highest pass-blocking efficiency among centers with at least 150 pass-block snaps.

Onto the next opportunity, Person signed a one-year, $915K deal with the 49ers this offseason to back up center Weston Richburg and guards Laken Tomlinson and Joshua Garnett. While it isn't a glorified role, Person adds value as a key depth player for the 49ers entering the 2018 season.
