Nice. That's the s**t I do like. I love how Lynchahan like Rob Pelinka and Magic with the Lakers came in and emphasised getting in tip top shape, dropping body fat and being able to run consistently.

I'm struggling to remember, who were the starting guards for us in 2017?

If Cooper plays average, it will be an improvement. There will be a minimum of 3 new starters on the OL. If it takes chemistry and cohesion to function as a good group of five, then it will take some time to get them playing well together provided they are competent as individuals (Garnett, Cooper, McG).

I'm betting they suck in the first and second regular season games, and start to get in synch in the 3rd game.

It's going to be a season long process to get in sync, especially in the run game. The first thing they have to nail down is sorting out what to do on stunts and blitzes. I think Richburg will pay immediate dividends in this area. Too many unblocked rushers with Kilgore at Center. Not sure who is at fault, but the Center should be accountable for some, if not a lot, of that.

Richburg should really help pass protection as well. Last year it seemed like the OGs and OC were looking for each other to pick up LBs. Hope so for JGs sake! My hope is that these guys communicate better than the last bunch and can establish rapport quickly.

I really hope our OL gels and gets it together this year. Would love to see this offense and Jimmy with good amount of time to read and throw without being rushed most of the time.

Definitely wasn't happening last year.

I think Kilgore wasn't athletic or agile enough to basically put his body between the pass rusher and the QB. I think with more athletic linemen, that should decrease significantly. As for taking a whole year to get in synch, I don't think it will take that long. But it won't be fast either, I still say 3 games, but considering all the newbies on the O Line, maybe 4 to 5 games (and as long as they all stay healthy) by the 5th game, they should have enough reps to be a functional offensive line for Jimmy.

My mentioning of Kilgore has to do more with his protection audibles than his individual ability to be a pass protector. I felt as though there were numerous times where the 2017 OL slid protection to the incorrect side leading to unblocked rushers. I don't know how much that has to do with Kilgore but the Center does own (some of?) that responsibility, but how much depends on scheme and what Kyle asks from his Center. Richburg has stated that part of the game is what makes him enjoy being a Center.
I know nothing of who was at fault with OL calls. I know for sure what I saw. Kilgore got pushed backwards into QB, no matter who it was, virtually every play. His signature move after the play was over was to find QB and help him up. It sure looked like he just wasn't strong enough to block the guy who literally ran right over him or into him knocking him backwards into the QB every play. Our QBs could see the C coming backwards after the ball was snapped. Now maybe he wasn't strong enough, maybe he wasn't quick enough,, but no question, he got knocked backwards virtually most every play. Now could the problem have been with beadles or laken? Yes, but still, Kilgore went backwards once ball was snapped...and he had a lot of guys between him and OGs fly thru untouched...multiple times.

So, no matter what happens this yr nor for how long...we won't be seeing Kilgore going backwards after each snap of the ball. Hey, a guy has to look for the good things. Richburg HAS to be a better blocker than that. The OGs? honestly, I would have felt a lot better if we had kept Trent Brown one more yr, his contract yr, to play RG. That way we would have known for sure there was one OG that can block. What I am hoping for is Garnett to look like the Outland player he was voted his senior yr, and for Cooper to be what kyle and JL thot he was when they signed him. If Magnus is the one, or Laken...I don't care. I just want us to protect the franchise.

I know that kyle was all about ZBS, but frankly with the FRANCHISE out there, I think pass blocking should have been the primary concern. It wasn't and that is the coach's prerogative. Still and all, this QB protection thing, bugs the hell out of me. I pray Garnett and somebody can protect Jimmy. Same goes for new guy McG. Joe will do his job.

Well, that's why the reps will be important. If the center calls the protections to the right, and the blitz comes from the left (in a typical zone blitz scenario), my hope is that they have enough reps to where they can instinctively adjust on the fly and pick that up. Having said that, the fact that they can run outside of the Right OT is going to be important in pass protection, because if the defense doesn't honor the threat of an outside zone run to the right, they can be gashed significantly. Trent's inability to block to the outside on right side zone runs (in my opinion) caused a lot of pass protection breakdowns because the defense didn't buy the fake outside zone runs to the right and the Right DE just basically blew past him or the Guard to get to the QB.

I think a big part of Kilgore's problem is he was just to slow getting to his spot and setting up. If an O LIneman is fast and athletic enough to get to the spot and anchor, he should be able to give the QB some time. My eyes, he was always getting pushed back, not so much because he doesn't have the strength, but because he wasn't athletic enough to simply beat the D Lineman to his spot and gear up and absorb the bull rush or agile enough to move his body to get in between the QB and the D Lineman. Like when Draymond sets a screen for Curry's three point shot, if Draymond doesn't have the agility to keep his body between Lebron and Curry, he blows past Draymond and knocks the ball down.

Well, I sure understand that comparison. Whatever it was, agility or strength, or both, we won't be seeing that from him again.

At worst, the oline plays as bad as last year (JG can still win with that).

Upgrading the center was huge and getting rid of Beadles doesn't hurt one bit.

Jimmy will feel it out by preseason and get by till the chemistry settles in (very smart guy).
