It sounds like Cooper will be playing more at RG for us. Which is a good thing. That's where he had big success for Dallas.
I'm feeling more and more comfortable at guard. Garnett at LG and Cooper at TG would be ideal, but it's nice knowing Tomlinson got better over the year and can fill in

Cooper can play both but seems he's our most agile G, Laken is more suited to stay at LG imo. So Garnett fights with Cooper AND Laken since he's kinda a younger hybrid of Laken/Cooper.
The addition of Richburg will help further solidify the G position.

After writing this I would think Garnett will start at RG since he knows the system? Unless Cooper already has caught on?
The transition from a huge lumbering power run blockers, to agile, hostile, mobile zone blockers is complete! The offense should look faster, and more aggressive this season!

Somewhere Bob McKitrick and Bill Walsh are smiling!

I'm hoping Garnett nabs the LG spot.

+1
If this dude is good in Kyle's O, the 49ers should be in fine shape on the interior of the line.
This will be the first time in NFL history that the offensive linemen hand over the present their running back buys them to their QB. Jimmy throw so quick the OL doesn't even need to block.

It took me like 4x reading this before I understood, but yes!
Do you guys think they will plug Garnett on the left side with Staley vs the right side with McGlinch?

Well, i hope you are correct. I still am not certain who exactly was the OL who was responsible for 5 of the 6 sacks that Dak Prescott received at the hands of his own OL. I asked an avid cowboy fan from Ft Worth, who it was and he said he remembered it being Cooper. I certainly hope that isn't true. Someone here said no it was someone else, but my hope it cooper wasn't the one that allowed those 5 sacks on Dak. Until i know for sure i am more than a bit concerned about coop. Same goes for Laken. Now Thl, who everyone appreciates , believes laken got better toward season's end. I respect Thl as he has taught me huge amounts of football this past couple yrs.

But i still think the OL looked better because of Jimmy's quick release, NOT becaause they played better. We will all see shortly, and I am hoping Thl's opinion is correct. But i am suspicious of laken at this particular time. I think beadles doesn't make it thru cuts, and that leaves magnus who we really have seen scant use of. Then , of course, Garnett, who took a yr basically to remold his body to fit the new regimen. Can he be a counted on starter and protect JG? I hope. Can magnus? I hope. Laken...well, let's let our eyes tell us how the big guy is doing. AGain i hope ...but who am i counting on right up the gut? Right now, nobody. I am just hoping 1 at least and hopefully 2 guys step up. I care not who it is, but just want our FR QB protected. Iif we do that, then we had a successful yr. Right now i am totally in the dark as to what our OGs can do. Again, i hope.

Lastly, McG. One disturbing fact on his resume was 19 or maybe 16 times he got beat. Now did that mean a sack...or did it mean he got beat and his qB got blasted? Either one is no bueno, but it does suggest QB protection is not his strong suit. Kyle wants good run blockers. Of course, if your FR QB has just spent the entire afternoon on his back on the turf, things did not got well. I hope our new guy, McG, is not responsible for that. I hope he ends up being a great QB protector. But his C.V says otherwise. Hopefully he works on pass pro and gets good at it. Same for laken, magnus and garnett. Just because an OL is a first rounder doesn't mean he can protect his Qb. ...and all these guys are responsible for keeping our QB from getting creamed. I hope.

I wouldn't worry too much about prior teams and prior stats on other teams. This is a different system, different players, and different coach, and different protection schemes. Let the pre-season play out and see how they hold up with regards to their assignments. A sack can be caused by any number of reasons, one of which is getting beat by the D LIneman. But keep in mind, if the QB or the Center calls the wrong protections, the Tackle or Rb takes the wrong angle, or the O LIneman does the wrong assignment - it can look like a certain player got beat, but it was his teammate that really caused the sack. Sometimes, it's fourth and long and only 5 seconds left on the clock - and the QB is throwing a hail mary and the QB is sacked. In those cases, is it really the O LIne's fault? Not always.
All good points Giedi, but i am talking about serial offenders. That would be kilgore, and both OGs last yr. They were nothing more than lumps of coal en route to the QB and that wasn't an exaggeration. Sure jimmmyG got the ball gone, but still got pasted, no thanks to our 3 turnstiles in the middle of the OL. Kilgore, now gone, thankfully, has a huge replacement in Richburg. So no more turnstile up hiway 1. Our OGs now have to show us. And i hope what they show is promising. Thing is nobody knows but kyle and JL know a lot more than we do...and i hope that JL's assessment is correct. I hope...

It wasn't Cooper in the Cowboys game. Cooper was at guard. It was the LT who was playing for a injured T Smith

And here's a hint for the OL trying to carve out starting positions coming back from injury - rehab and train in Santa Clara!!! There's always the "example" guy. And I still say Hoodie did us another favor.

The 49ers love it when players conduct their rehabilitation in Santa Clara. Brown did his in Florida. And he may not have been as devoted to it as the 49ers would have liked. "Trent's a big man," Lynch said four days before trading Brown. "So keeping him fit during the process has been a challenge for him and one that he's attacking."
