Meh-not worried, quick drops throw to McKinnon on the outside when they come up the middle and slants over the middle to Little Trent Taylor and let them chase the little critters. Plus that is why we have a full back to help chip them. You don't hit them straight on. You hit them on the sides. Plus one of them will be playing out of position. Rolling pockets.to the opposite side, make them chase and run.

Then there is the tried and true, let one of them come up the middle and Jimmy bullets a pass to the crotch....

Meh, the short pass *is* Kyle's run game.

I take it you didn't watch the Falcons much.

His staple is the playaction bootleg to get receivers open on crossers. If we can't run the ball effectively the playaction doesn't work. And if you have one GLARING hole at RT in the run game who is not able to do what Shanahan wants there is a huge problem.

Shanahan's teams have consistently been top 10 in rushing attempts. His offense revolves around the stretch runs. If Trent can't execute it he won't be here.

We will not become a run and gun passing team. It won't happen under Shanahan.

Rams will run double 3ts in nickel with Donald and Suh. Good luck to our guards.

Gotta keep them in base so 49ers can exploit those LBs. What are their names? Exactly.

Their line is concerning to say the very least.

Truth!
Soooo, about those G's.

Shanahan's league ranking in rushing attempts since becoming a playcaller...

2008-16
2009-20
2010-31
2011-25
2012-3
2013-13
2014-6
2015-16
2016-12
2017-22

Only top 10 twice in rushing attempts and 2012 is only because they built more of a college style offense around RG3 and his ability to run.

Zone to stretch the field, wear the defense out some, and used to help set up the pass. But yeah, it's still a WCO grounded firmly in the short passing game. His personal staple is that everything looks the same so defenders can't key in...is it a stretch run off tackle, inside zone, pass, etc?
I think our passing game will be ok, even against teams like the Rams twice a season. jimmy just gets the ball out too quick, and Garcon, Goodwin, and Trent are all good getting loose in coverage.

Im worried we wont be able to run the outside zone scheme with those two guys on the rams dline 2 gaping, and im unsure Mckinnon is the answer at RB, but we shall see.

Kyle's offense is at its best when the stretch runs are getting yards and he starts to kill defenses with the play action game and constant presnap confusion. Slants, digs, mesh, sails and the deep crossing patterns are all on play. The point though is his offense isn't a consistent league high in rushing attempts. In the perfect world his running game is designed for quality over quantity.

What the Rams do for one season shouldn't influence what we want to do.

And a power back IMO to complement what we already have in the RB stable. Going to be hard to function in the outside zone scheme against them IMO. Luckily there are backs in this deep draft class. I expect one to be taken in the mid rounds somewhere.

Im just not sold on Mckinnon being the answer we needed in the run game. He was a bit redundant with what we already had, and im not 100% convinced he is even a better back than Breida. I get the "offensive weapon" title being thrown out on him, however, i have serious doubts he can be a feature back, and thats really what we need, a feature back. We have an abundance of "offensive weapons".
