Nice post NC, I have been pushing for Crosby in the 3rd for quite some time now. Crosby is the guy we can draft and have back up both T spots this year. Then if Brown leaves in FA, he can become the starting RT. In the 1st round I want Edmunds, and in the 2nd I want the best CB, or if an elite Guard slips I would go that route.

Crosby isn't a fit. He is the Josh Garnett of tackles. All power. No athletesism.

Lacks initial quickness. Cut-off blocks are a challenge. Doesn't always secure positioning of base blocks through footwork

Crosby won't be a favorite of evaluators looking for a pretty tackle who wins with athleticism and technique, but he will appeal to teams who covet size, length and strength as he puts big checkmarks in those boxes

He isn't what Shanahan looks for in linemen.

It's really sad

I agree, it's easier for these college teams to go gimmicky than to develop guys that can handle both speed and power rushers.

Then they get into the pro's and can only wear pads for like 35% of practices, it's killing these Tackles.

Indeed, but as things stand it is not the job of college football to develop players for the NFL. That is a biproduct of their own success. If the NFL feels that quarterbacks and OT's, to name a couple, are not being developed in the way they wish by the college game, they can set up their own development league, they can change their style of play to suit the players coming out of college, or they can just carry on whinging about it.

C is also critical to Kyle's offense and it wouldn't surprise me if we go a top C to play G and back up Richburg.

The number of really good centers in the draft would make this logical. Also, while Richburg doesn't have the injury history Kilgore did, does Kyle want to put all his chips in one guy? Don't think so, and Magnuson may be good, but a dependable starter? Hmm...

Exactly my line of thinking too!

I see them possibly drafting a C who can play G and an OT who can play G. That would greatly solidify the G position while building quality depth for OT and C.

That would certainly be ideal! Although, looking at the T's we've been visiting with, those are some tall dudes. I don't know many can slide inside.

The team loves versatility on the oline and Kyle loves guys that offer versatility among the interior positions. It makes sense because centers are often very intelligent and have to understand protections and adjustments.

Bit early to say that.

Him panning out would be huge for their OL

I agree it's too early to write Garnett off, but I had been hoping they would draft Cody Whitehair, who is much more athletic. They could have had Whitehair without trading up. Of course, Garnett is a Baalke type OL while Whitehair is much more a Shanahan style OG.

Agree on both

Actually, it'd be very smart to do so. OLine guys who can play multiple positions are gems.

I was big on Whitehair.

Also it is too early to bail on Garnett - But, IMO, this is his make or break year as far as being a starter.

Agreed. He has worked his butt off this year though that's forsure.

I hope Garnett comes in as a lean mean hungry screen machine! Because if he is, with McKinnon - he can take it to the house if the guards can give him enough space.
