Not bad, with draft full of guards coming up....we will be fine

We better not have both of those guys starting come Sep. And we better have at least one good OT as a developmental player to be the heir apparent (for either side).

You said it Buff. If we have these two guys starting, then our FA and draft FAILED. We had one job once we got jimmy. Protect him. and the above will not suffice. So we best be looking in the 21-35 slots for Wynn, Hernandez, et al all the way to Braden at 35. But to go from #9 to 21 and 30...wow is that ever a hard deal to do. Try it.
If Nelson, no sweat...then we just take the best OG after that. But anything else, if a coaches choice I hope and pray for Wynn, Hernandez, Braden, et al 21-35.

Not to be too optimistic, but if those guys blossom under Shanahan's watch? I'd be fine with them. Both are very intelligent so it's possible they could develop and play up to or beyond their perceived ceilings. They are both late first rounders so may be better than you think.

Good call.

I think Hernandez is going to be a very solid pro!

if he did it was only a snap or two, or a single series. iirc. Magnuson played RT in his place and finished the game w/ a torn ligament in his foot.

Your memory is off. He played the entire game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hADLqB2XEU

I saw at least 4 blown protection calls where there was a free rusher who had undeterred access up the middle to the QB. TWhy we acquired Richburg?

Brown was injured already for the Bears game. He got hurt and they started Magnusun. Magnusun got hurt and they went back to an injured Brown. That wasn't working so they were forced to start Beadles the rest of the way.

Not even close.

okay, so I seem to have contributed to some confusion for which I apologize.

Apparently TB was injured in practice the week before the second Seattle game and was inactive for that game. Gilliam was injured during, so Magnuson started in and finished the game despite suffering an injured foot--ending his season as well.

so TB was activated for the Bears game and played the entire game despite his injured shoulder--but afterwards went on IR--leaving Beadles to start at RT for the final 4 games. I think that's how it happened, and I apologize for my earlier confusion/faulty recollection of the precise timing of the sequence of season ending injuries in rapid succession to three RTs in a row.

Any further correction is welcomed and appreciated. Thank -you Hopper and NC, specifically.

These injuries make it clear why guys like Magnuson and Beadles are valuable...they play any position in a pinch. The SB years had guys moving all over to cover for injuries and the key was play calling to help them out. You can't expect a guy like Beadles to fill in at RT and be anywhere as strong as Brown. You can help him with the TE, FB, screens...all sorts of plays that mask shortcomings.

No worries at all OND. You know you're one of my favorites anyhow!

Not to worry OND, have done the same myself. Most of us have made goofs, and this one was a tad difficult to follow.

Pretty much dead on but I think Tomlinson starts and Cooper and Garnett battle it out for the other starting OG spot

Just don't care at this point as they had one year to learn and adjust, while dealing with injuries. My guess is that Staley and Brown will start at OT and Richburg at C. Other than this...I do not care until the first game of the season. Trust in Kyle! Or not...
Personally, I'm looking for them to draft a OT and an OG in the late rounds. 9 picks in this years draft say maybe round 5 and round 6? I hope they pick a really mobile and agile OT and a very fast OG. The fastest OT and OG they can find and then throw them in the weight room to improve their strength. Then start running screens and draws in practice untill that stuff is muscle memory!

This sounds very reasonable! I did a quick mock in response to NC in another thread and a quick OT was one of my thoughts, but couldn't find one. Went with Daniels to cover LG and C. Daniels would be a much higher pick, 2nd round, but may be worth it for depth.

I agree, this is the draft to get a really good guard or even OT prospect. I hope we take advantage of it.
John Benton and Kyle Shanahan will look like guru's/geniuses or our o-line will really hold this team back this year. I think we are taking a gamble with the group we have thus far.
