dang, so the couple of bargain bin signings and the few reaches in the draft wasn't enough to improve the quality of OL play? Who could've seen this coming? Lol if the 49ers have a single injury, I'm not sure how Purdy will be able to stay on the field against Seattle and LA's pass rush. And that's giving the starting group the benefit of the doubt, too.

Former 49ers LG Laken Tomlinson, their starter there for 5 seasons, had a bone spur in his left heel cleaned up this offseason. Tomlinson said he's feeling the best he has in while and has been training hard — ready for teams who may need a vet guard pic.twitter.com/SsKxfFE1ki

as for LG Colby started off strong but cooled off it looks like I have heard nothing really on jones
I hope it was Colby just having a bad 1 to 2 days but preseason will tell us a lot I would imagine they would get some extended playing time at this position

We're pretty thin at OT depth. Lowe is the swing tackle and the rest are practice squad/development guys that they would not trade for since they have their own development guys.

uh, the Niners will probably be looking for a backup tackle lol. Lowe has an ankle sprain; Pleasants is playing guard; Cruz looks like he should be in the XFL. The depth is looking grim.

49ers' Run Game Struggles Show in Shanahan's Dead-Run Rate
Story by Oliver G.
USA TODAY Touchdown Wire
The San Francisco 49ers' ground game had trouble getting out of its own way in 2025, and Kyle Shanahan's career numbers back it up.
The 49ers head coach ranks 20th among current NFL play-callers in avoiding "dead runs" since time leading the team, according to a new chart from NFL analyst Ryan Paganetti. Nearly 20% of Shanahan's designed runs (19.8%) have gone for zero yards or worse across 295 games he called offensive plays for San Francisco. That rate of 5.06 such plays per game is the highest per-game mark of any coach inside the top 20.
San Francisco's 2025 numbers reflected the struggle. The 49ers finished 24th in the league in rushing yards with 1,817 and tied for 18th in rushing touchdowns with 15. San Francisco ranked 14th in rushing first downs with 119 and averaged just 3.8 yards per carry, 30th in the NFL.
Shanahan's offense has built its identity around the run setting up play-action and explosive passing, but last season's ground game didn't hold up its end. The 49ers' per-carry average ranked third-worst in the league, and Shanahan's dead-run rate suggests more designed carries stalled behind the line than for most of his peers.
With 295 games of history, Shanahan's sample size is one of the largest on Paganetti's list, giving the number added weight. It's a data point that helps explain why San Francisco's ground game lagged behind the rest of the league's top offenses in 2025.
Hopefully, the 49ers will turn around the run game in 2026 with a lot of returning stars in Christian McCaffrey in the backfield and Trent Williams up front.
I actually disagree. If he's been that poor with dead runs, how can that explain last year? The team typically has a great running game in spite of the dead runs over time. Plus CMC was there as well. I think the poor run game was due to receivers who posed no downfield threat, WR blocking, and general run blocking. Puni was hurt all year, weak at the LG position, and Brendel is Brendel. Those factors would hurt an inside and outside running game. None of the other backs put up great numbers either so I can't fully say CMC is at fault (though he may have lost a step).

Gave up on Zakelj last year. If you can't be at least a quality backup in year 3, you're done. Those 2022 and 2023 drafts (save for Brock Purdy of course) were putrid. Going two years without getting much of anything killed our depth, even moreso than the Lance trade.

Seattle and LA will be licking their chops against this doo doo OL. Klay Kubiak says both Robert Jones and Connor Colby "will play a lot" in the preseason as the 49ers work toward settling the LG competition.

Jones still running with the top team
nice
Concerning: Connor Colby, who is in the running for the starting LG spot, lost most of his reps in the OL vs DL 1-on-1s today, including 2 against James Thompson, per @_noahfurtado pic.twitter.com/c9Toiy8Lai
