They aren't equipped to play the big boys.

Exactly their performance recently against mediocre defenses at best was a mirage they'll struggle mightily if they face Philly next week.

They are especially worse without Trent.

TBH my first reaction is the tackles didn't do bad at all. Seattle will get some. But overall k felt lole
mckivits and Pleasants did a decent job. (At least in pass pro) The interior got manhandled. Literally blown back on so many plays it was disheartening.

now the running lanes.... no clue wth happened but man Kyle needs to get draft some real monsters in the middle.
Extremely overrated... maybe you keep Puni, but you have to replace every other starter (offseason) not named Trent Williams

It may sound crazy, but I expect them to do better against Philly. Not claiming victory, but we should do better.

Trent Williams might be gone too, he'll be 38 next summer.

Some people just won't let this go. He's not going anywhere. But hey, who are you going to believe, Trent Williams or whatever gloom and doom made up story you put out there?

If Trent's back sure, but better than last night is a pretty low bar.

They keep pretending that Brendel is a stellar option because he does so so to decent work against middling competition but then consistently gets pushed around by better fronts.

There will be opportunities to upgrade in FA and via the draft, no excuse to keep sticking with him. Also they need to upgrade LG badly. Look what add Gray Zabel did for Seattle. A dominant LG would change up the dynamic of this entire OL.
.
I trust Purdy to be able to step up and avoid outside pressure but he needs a good, consistent pocket to step up into. Its why Payton has twice built dominant interiors for shorter passers.
I have been saying the o line is average. It's ok not great not bad. they should rank around 10 to 15. They played a bunch of Bad team and had some really good weeks. They play a good team and suddenly not looking so good. Trent being out hurts. They help Austen Pleasants with chips and TE help and that hurt the passing game. Trent gets very little help, sometimes no help. The o line depth sucks. They need to draft a center. They need to draft a Tackle. Maybe one that is better then McKivitz, then McKivitz can start at LG and move out when Trent is hurt. They need to Have a plan for when Trent is Hurt. I feel like there is no plan or the plan they have sucks. They need to start using more of there second and third round pick on the O Line. Connor Colby is a nice 7th round pick that can develop, He should have never been playing this year. Why is Matt Hennessy on the team if he can not beat Conner Colby for the LG spot? Because he is a Center ya I get it but come on. If Hennessy can not win the starting LG job from Colby he should not be on the team. This is why I say there o line depth sucks. Who or which O line do you think will be on this team in 2 years? Will any of them in 2 year be at an all pro level ? Is there anyone Dominick Puni you think can develop into an All pro ? In 2 year they have Conner Colby, Dominick Puni and at that point a 31 year old McKivitz. Who ells?? Maybe Spencer Burford ???
I hope not Nick Zakelj ???
Burford and Puni are both 25 and I think they both have a chance to grow develop into good players. Do ether or both have a good work ethic put in the time to get better? I'm not sure if the 49er will pay Burford to stay and develop. Plus Burford has been injured missing games.
I'm not a Jake Brendel fan, I think they need someone better. Draft someone to replace him. When was the last timer they drafted a center?

I'm not a specialist whatsoever about O-Line but I thought Hennessy looked better than Brendel fwiw.
Brendel just screams loser for me I don't know. The way he looks when he's beat one on one, god it looks awful.
I would sign a Center in the Free Agency or draft one and a LG with the first three rounds. For me that's the priority.
Puni is good. McIvitz improved this season. Trent is Trent. His hamstring injury happened at the worst time.
But they have to find better players at the Center and LG position.
Purdy is excellent when he has a semi-clean pocket but they're doing no effort to help him.
It's like they banking on his mental process, his anticipations throws and his accuracy to elevate the whole OL.
Even Brady had walls in front of him with the Patriots.

Mckvitiz shouldn't even pick up a check for yesterday's game. Not sure I've ever seen a guy lose so many reps in one game.

ahhhhhhh.. DON'T blame the players, they are doing their best ... what I don't get is EVERYONE see the OL as the weakest link of this team, and it has yet to be addressed by SHANNY...

he wastes his 3rd rounders on TEs, RBs, WRs... at least TRY and see if you can land an OL in the 3rd round !!
