My BOLD statement before the season started was that this was going to be a top 10 Offense Line, is it?

Gotta give these guys their flowers. Last night was the best performance all season; and as some of you already mentioned, they have been trending up each game. Also like already mentioned, a lot of it has to do with health; Puni looks like he's back and he's one of the top guards in the league IMO. Burford has been better than I expected, as has McKivitz; and Trent is still as good as it gets at LT.

Amazing job and sure as f**k making a whole lot of people eat their words (including myself) who thought this group would be a weak link.

Current PFF rankings show every starter is up or trending up. Beginning with the Tackles:

McKivitz - #8 of 83 Tackles with qualifying minimum snaps.
Trent - #3 of 83
Burford - #55 of 79 - strong trend up, was 68 at one time. He is healthy now.
Puni - #27 of 79 - big jumps up
Brendel - #14 of 40 - moved up as Guard play improved.

Health is always critical to good team play. Indy had a very good OL but lost starting Center and best OT against us. Detroit had a good line until Ragnow retired. Now they struggle. The Rams, OTOH, have stayed healthy and have arguably the best overall OL in the league. Four of their starters are top 10, and the other is #13.

No , Paying alot better the last couple of weeks but still middle of the pack.I think they are better at pass blocking we need to get bigger and stronger on the inside before we can become great at run blocking.

Curious.

PFF rates all five starters as being better at run blocking than pass blocking.

Still aren't up.to our usual standard. Our run blocking use to be such that everyone looked great behind our O line.

Opposing teams have studied what Kyle is doing and bringing down safety help to slow the run game. Things don't stay the same year after year.

That's not to say we couldn't improve but it isn't just a matter of our OL is not good at run blocking anymore.
We still need to draft quality OLine guys.

Can't go by PFF , rather look at the eye test we never seem to move the line of scrimmage our back s on running plays have a lot of oline pushed back onto the running lanes. I think on the outside zone or sweep you could 2 guys with a good grade and 1 with a bad grade and the whole run gets stuffed and that skews the grade. What I would like to see is what do our WR have as blocking grades ? It's like do you lean more to sacks or d line pressure for their grade ?

We need at least 3 new guys for next year.

There is more to it but they're not good as a unit including the wr blocking. I think Kyle helps scheme up the run blocking more than the talent of the players except Trent who is a Hall of Famer.

there's really not that more to it. When we were running great in the past, it all slowed down in the playoffs as the better defenses would load the box and make our past QB try to beat us. It worked. But we now have a better QB who can take advantage of these overloaded boxes.

Nope. Only the top 2 seeds can ever be tier 1.
Tier 1

...yet every writer and analyst in the business use their ratings regularly. It is the most common metric to give good general comparisons.

Other services, including PFF Premium, offer greater detail but the rankings rarely change.

We're talking about PFF rankings and their is more to it hat they could have them higher than what they are . It takes every to perform to some level for it to to work. It could be like 4 of the 5 lineman perform their block but the RT on sweeps to the right gets blown up and the back gets tackled in the backfield for a loss .
