Last yrs OL...stunk. This yr's won't look anything like last yrs. Last yrs DL...had AA and a rotating NT duo or trio. This yr we got two studs at DE and still have talent at NT....and I look for Purcell to get lots of snaps this yr also. RBs...were good as long as Hyde was playing for 6 games or thereabouts. Then Trent brot in off the shelf Shaun and DuJuan, both of which did well. This yr....we got a healthy Hyde plus those two guys. And two others in the mix. WRs? Lousy last yr, but with no OL and poor QB performance first half of yr, so hard to say about WRs....Torrey will revert to what he did before coming here. And we got the CFL's best WR. Plus we got Burbridge who is still untested...along with 3 other guys who basically just sat the bench. DBs....really hard to say, depending on what our 3 draftees do...all with some chinks in their history. But we got 9 of 'em so hopefully this works out.

Overall, comparing this team to last yrs is silly. They are totally , completely different. The O won't look like any we have seen. The D has been substantially upgraded, but until these guys all play, who is to say if we have all depth and not enough starters? Granted it may work out that way, which I doubt, but assuming this team is the same disaster that hit the field last yr? Unh Unh.

I'm with you on all the optimism, and it's not just blind homerism (I don't get that from your posts either).

"who is to say if we have all depth and not enough starters?" I hear ya, and I happened to mention (whole lot of depth, not enough starters) only because it's still early and I'm anxious as hell to see these guys in TC / preseason games. Of course the real stuff shows in the regular season, but I believe we can get good assessments / eyeball tests in TC / preseason.

I'm excited to find out how much the guys improved (all the ones that got terrible coaching last year) and am hoping a few of the rooks can be solid contributors when their number is called.

My gut / homer side of me is having faith that a lot of them will step up and actually help us win games with this coaching staff. But for now (until we see them in action), I just think of them as backups to the starters we have now, and to top it off, some of our current starters might not even be starters on a good team.

Yeah, I'm surprised some missed that article cause it was up on our headlines / NFL site for a few days.

I really don't think he'd choose them over us (if FO really wanted him back)... I thought he mentioned he wanted to sign with a team that had a chance at going deep into the playoffs. We might suck, but I don't think the Saints are gonna do much better TBH.

Very good posts! I look forward to the year and am much more interested this year than last or the year before. We've had two years of "Oops" football, whoever you blame. So now Kelly is a fascinating coach who succeeded quickly in Philadelphia. He has the type of offensive mind that can make the players better, as opposed to last year when they under acheived. The D is regrouping after losing their heart and soul with retirements.. .adding some really fine players and having depth everywhere but LB.

Go niners!

We do know Kelly's ego is as big as Harbaugh's or bigger, and we do know he is more than capable of coaching up offense. That alone gives me a notion that he has been prepping nonstop and will try his damndest to get this team in gear in his first year... I can imagine he'd like to do as well as Harbs in his first year. But does he have enough horses tho?

I also think that Kelly actually has more to prove this year than either he or Harbaugh did their first years with NFL teams. Both weren't expected to have the first year results they had. Now Kelly and Harbaugh have been fired and Harbaugh is out of the NFL. Kelly needs to prove his philosophy will work again, and also is now expected to turn this team around. The expectation isn't high that he will win this first season, but you know he is going to want to.

With Baalke and Gamble in the oversight positions I expect Kelly to be a more successful coach than he was with Roseman in Philadelphia.

I doubt either coach thinks about pressure. Most really good coaches put so much pressure on themselves that there is little room for increase. Eddie D put ridiculous pressure on Bill Walsh but at times he tried to take the pressure off...once he saw how tightly wound BW was already. It was a mistake that caused an earlier than necessary retirement. I don't see that happening with Kelly but who knows? Jed York has an ego and seems to be a passive aggressive sort of character whereas Eddie D was in your face. If that was a major reason for the rift between Harbaugh and the team then it could happen again with Kelly.

There's no pressure on coach Kelly yet. This team is going to struggle and it's expected. By 2018, there's going to be some pressure to win
Can these guys be the next QUILLAN CROSS & FAHNHORST ??!!!

I wasn't referring to outside pressure, but the pressure Kelly will feel all on his own. I agree as long as there is progress he is fine for a couple of years.
I must say...AD looks quite svelt in those workout videos

Your projected time sounds about right, though the probability of success (something like 8-8 / 9-7 this year) coming sooner is not farfetched

difference of the coaches??

HARBAUGH was more careful with Akilex Smith and the 49ers offense.. he wanted the team to control the clock because he knew that they weren't a very good offense yet... he kept the game as close as possible and allowed his defense to dictate the tempo..

KELLY will find his playmakers and when he does, he will attack attack and attack some more.. he believes in putting the opposing defense on its heels by not showing respect.. and once he sees a weakness from the the opposing defense, he will continue to make it rain..

This is what I wish harbaugh did. The other team would be starting their 7th CB and we'd be running it 50 times

Harbaugh is all about shortening the game and limiting turnovers and it worked. Chip has a lot of flash but expect a lot of turnovers and a worn down defense.
