Not too confident in Geep, but he hardly replaces a legend. I think there are 1000 really good high school coaches who can call a game on our 2014 level.

LOL it's so many factors. The coaching overhaul sucks and certainly will cause growing pains for everyone.

We had 3 monster years in a row. What are the odds the next 4 will be nearly as successful as the last 4? Our roster is veteran - nice way of saying old and headed to the decline in many key positions. We knew in 2011 we had a few years and its passed, that feeling just sucks.

We have drafted super well for the defense so I do expect them to be in the top half of the league, but the opposite can be said for the offense. What impact offensive player have we drafted in the past 4 years outside of Kap and Miller. (Harbaugh's the QB whisperer right?) It's kinda insane how well we can draft defense (cover corner please?!), and yet we can barely find anyone on offense.

This is why I'm conflicted, because yes, why didn't Harbaugh and his staff get more out of these guys? Ellington and Patton looked promising, but they warm the bench. So I totally understand fans perspective about Harbaugh and change may have been necessary, but being a solid veteran roster I feel blowing up the entire staff for a staff of unknowns and retreads isn't a logical move. If Harbaugh could not be convinced to alter the offense, then I totally understand his departure, but we don't know why. In the end he took us away from 8 losing years and we almost won it all.

All this points to the FO being incompetent on many levels. What did it for me is no owner should ever blow up their coaching staff on Twitter after a loss like this jackass did on Thanksgiving. That is worse than any fan can be on this forum if you think about it. That tweet showed how messed up the franchise is from the top on down. Its sad for the players and sad for us fans, because we want them to be setup to have the best chance for success so we can all enjoy it.

I was put in a timeout for saying the same thing , watch out for Mods !!!!!
I wouldn't automatically assume that the "coaching overall sucks" because they haven't even gone to work yet. Sticking to the title of this thread, here are some reasons that could curb the pessimism a bit:

Offense:

- Geep Chryst will probably run some form of WCO and Foerster will probably install at least some zone blocking - this will be an entirely new challenge for NFC West defenses and probably not nearly as predictable.

- There might be more health and consistency with the O-line; couldn't get much worse than last year.

- Kaepernick is doing some very serious off-season wood-shedding; that's got to be a positive.

Defense:

- They'll get Willis, Bowman, Dorsey and Williams back - wow.

- The defensive players all seem to love Tomsula - Justin Smith might even stay on for another year with Tomsula at HC.

Unlike you he had the courtesy to put it in the right thread. So he need not worry about mods.

So the owner has absolutely no influence in the success or failure of a football team?
lol, That meme needs to say Super Bowl Victories or You're Fired!

Also my pessimism for our ability to draft offensive players and develop them is warranted. Granted lets see what the new coaches can do, but I'm a cynic since its the same FO in place.
I didn't know that the purpose of a thread's existence could so accurately sum up my feelings. I close my eyes and see 5-11 staring at me in the darkness.

No. The owner obviously has influence. All I meant was that the coaching changes have been made and York's part in this is pretty much over. Now it's up to coaches to coach and players to play.

Don't get me wrong here. I think things have been handled in a very awkward manner. I was a big Harbaugh supporter, but it's not like I was a big fan of the offense. Time marches on. Jed York and Baalke have made their decisions. They've put together a staff. There's perception and there's reality. I think that in this case perception is probably worse than reality.

Now what we fans have is a roster with good talent, especially on defense and a different staff with quite a few coaches with whom the players are familiar and comfortable. Are there grounds for pessimism? Of course. But, I think there are also reasons for optimism.

Post that Optimism in the Optimism thread, this is for Niner Armageddon!

I will say this. 3 things have to happen for us to contend:

1. Defense must not drop off.

2. Offensive line must show up and protect Kap. They must open holes larger 1.5 feet for the Running Back. (Gore made these guys look better)

3. With protection, Kap must progress and be a better passer.

If those things happen. We will be in the hunt.It will not be easy given the environment. Lets see how this draft goes. If they draft WR Billy Who from Where in the first round again I am going to Curse at the TV so loud the mods here will still give me a timeout lol

You think the pessimism of the front office is bad now, just wait until we have to watch Frank Gore in another uniform next season.
