Great interview providing a lot of insights. Sounds like Geep is kept for continuity. The offense play call language is rooted in WCO. Logan sounds like he's very flexible and likes to adapt to new ideas.

Great listen NW. Thanks for that! Very telling...

Here's some great pieces from his interview.

While this was released on 1/29, I don't know WHEN the actual interview was done but it sounded like Geep was the man all along from his comments.

He LOVES Tomsula and they were very close to a 3-peat in Europe together. "It's WHO I'm going to work for!"

"He ran the defense beautifully."

"This roster is built to win."

"They fell off and they were 25th in the league..."

Has watched miles of film on CK. "Accuracy, decision-making, mobility..." Covers his 99 yard run. He's never seen a QB with THAT kind of top-end speed...maybe 1 of 32 RB's who can do that. CK is very smart...package-guy. All reports are that this is a very special kid.

"Let's do no harm (meaning already a great base around him now)...first order of business is to earn his trust...my history says I'll get that done."

47 pieces of the puzzle had to fall in place to accept this job. He's a straight teacher. We have a great 2-3 window to beat anyone right now.

You don't want to have to walk in and reinvent everything (language...for him it's the WCO and he doesn't anticipate many changes if any)...we have a corvette...let's take it down to the car wash and let it GO!

Jimmy is putting a staff together where it's a collaborative effort. I do not want to be the smartest guy in the room and JT has hired many great minds. "You can learn from everybody."

Seems like a very religiously-grounded guy. Loves the blues. "He's getting ready to listen to them (the blues in his beets)."

"If you shut up long enough, Matt Ryan (he coached him at Boston College) would tell you the answer. Listen to him!" ~ may be my favorite quote!

He's already watched the Hawks defense and broken it down (even broke it down for the Superbowl).

Layered passing game (Broncos). What do we have in our tool box to beat the basic high school cover 3. "Option-routes!" This is what the Pats excel at with Danny and Gronk. He's going to ask CK to makes those throws just over the LB "a one-inch throw." You find repetitive events on film, capture them, recreate them into a drill on the practice field. Then you throw a billion of them. He was very exact in the distance of the throw ala Bill Walsh; talked of the exact timing of the back drop, getting it out under 2.5 seconds, etc.

"All my life, all I've ever done is teach. The football field is my classroom. The student can NOT fail. Communicate, communicate, communicate."

This guy has me stoked!

Not sure whether he is paying homage to the WCO because it is expected, but he doesn't seem to be that type of guy. Sounds like he can come in and grasp the Harbaugh offense quickly. It will be interesting to see how much he and Geep change it.

LOL...just listened to him and once again...my crush is growing! Talking about finding the teachable aspect and then doing it 1000 times is really what kaepernick needs. How many times did CK overthrow the middle routes, approx 15/20 yards down the field? Or avoid them?

Logan really talks a good game. My favorite comment was that all he wanted to be was a physiology professor....huh!? LOL...I really like this guy!

Wait, we threw to the middle of the field? You want to hear irony. He just said in an interview during Superbowl week that the way to beat the Hawks is to attack the middle of the field. How effing ironic is THAT comment now?

it is. olsen made a living over the field in the 1st playoff game and the packers tight end made one in the 2nd game. they want to fly around side to side. you beat them stretching them vertically and running right at them. especially now since they play a LOT more zone since they don't have browner on the team to shut down the other side of the field
It just occurred to me when he was talking about using option routes against the Seahawks and what Stevie Johnson did to them in Buffalo.

Sherman was quoted as saying the reason Stevie Johnson was so hard to cover(in the buffalo game where he got over 100 yards on the Hawks) was because he Stevie had the freedom to change his route to what was going to get him open.
The most telling aspect of Logan's radio program is his great taste in music! The blues leading into his show is always top rate! He said he would definitely introduce the niners to blues and jazz, while being very willing to listen to whatever they enjoy. This guy may know how to lighten things up when needed! (in tribute to Ray Charles).

Awesome stuff to hear! Thank you very much for the info
I knew about Steve Logan way before most of you, as I watched most of his career at ECU. He put East Carolina University football program on the map. He was always creating innovative plays and exploiting mismatches. Not sure what he was talking about mobile QBs, he never really had one at ECU. Jeff Blake and David Garrard were mobile enough, but neither were running QBs. Either way, he led the Pirates to college football relevancy. He coached a Jeff Blake led Pirates team to a one loss season, a Peach Bowl win, and a #9 ranking back in the day. He is well respected in the east coast coaching circles. And yes, he is a great teacher, but may be a better play designer.

Yeah. Although most coaches know this, but it takes a Brady throwing to receivers like Edelman and Amendola with precision and few mistakes. The way Brady beat the zone tonight was how Montana beat those Fangio's Saints back in the 80's - with many short underneath passes in the seams of zone.

Agreed. There are clear ways how to beat SEA on the whiteboard. Doing it on the field is a different story. NE's OL is not getting enough credit. SEA losing Avril to the concussion midgame was big.

But back to Logan. It is nice to hear him mention option routes from the slot WR. I hope Ellington (college point guard) can be that shifty slot WR with nice jukes.
