Which 9ers team from the dark ages with some better coaching could have made the playoffs?

Owen Pochman guys!!

The kicker alone cost us the playoffs. I think he missed like five or six extra points, and a ton of field goals under 35 yards lol. A lot of them in the division.

Our team was crazy talented. TO in his prime. Jeff Garcia had back problems, but was ready for playoffs. Julian Peterson was in his prime. Ahmed Plummer was in his prime. Bryant Young was still beasting. Garrison Hearst was in his final year.

Was it? I thought it was Cortez ?? Any way that's what I recall.... Stupid losses due to missed extra points

I recall at least two blocked or missed extra points that effected late game strategy. Multiple missed easy field goals and several fumbled punt or kick returns.

That was a playoff team with an average special teams unit

No doubt, I remember we had a game on the road against the cardinals that year and our kicker Owen Pochman missed like 4 or 5 FG's and like 2 extra points in that game, it was so ridiculous. The other 2 things I remember from that season were the QB controversy with Garcia and Rattay & T.O. having a full melt down on the sidelines @ Greg Knapp during the game @ the vikings where I think we lost 35-7 or something like that

Cortez was kicker in 2002, 49ers brought in jeff chandler, who was not bad, he lost the job to pochman cause he could not kick deep on kickoffs. Thanks terry Donahue

2002 We went 10-6, we should have gone 12-4 and cortez was the reason we didn't

Yes, we lost San Diego game cause of him that year, he did his best to lose Oakland game, but we were able to pull that out

I voted '03...it actually had a +50 pt differential, should have at least been a 10-6/11-5 type team. '07 with norv could have been pretty good.

I will forever hate San Diego for hiring him so late in the offseason. There were literally zero replacements.

Yes, which is why they had to hire Hostler
