both chud and trestman have similar problems. they get away from the run and are content with chucking the ball too much and letting qb 'go to work'. that can and most likely WILL be a problem.

this.

I don't think it's fair to call the search a "giant sham". How about calling it "doing their due diligence"?

Not sure about Chud, but Trestman uses the RB in the passing game as an extension of the running game. Easy, high % completions. Forte had a bunch of them, as did our RBs when Trestman was OC here '95-'96.

Yes he will use them in the passing game, but will miss use them in the running game.

I suppose. I think it's clear the 49ers had their minds mostly set on Tomsula. They've been grooming him for years. I remember one columnist (forgot who), who spoke to Baalke about coaching candidates, and when Tomsula's name was mentioned, his eyes lit up. They didn't find anyone on the outside who they liked better than Tomsula. That's fine, but they better be right.

I think it's very fair to call it a sham if Tomsula never was formally interviewed.

I mean, even if they were very high on Tomsula, why not interview other candidates just to hear what they have to say? You never know what you'll find. Not to sound apologetic, but I think it would've been shortsighted and a mistake not to bring in other candidates (beyond obligatory Rooney rule interviews, etc).

Anybody who says Marc Tressman must be young, or a new 49er fan, I remember him leading the nfl in yardage, but not scoring, and always bogging down in the redzone, and Jerry Rices Avg going to complete s**t, our offense lost all explosiveness, we where like ball control with rb outlets, no scoring, and no threat of a down field attack, he did the same thing leading the raiders in 2002, look up the stats.

The problem is he ONLY uses the starting RB. Does not get the others involved to spell the starter if you want to be committed to the run. Forte had 2 monster seasons, 350~ combined touches both years. So the starter produces, but overall he does not run the ball much.

What? The 2002 Raiders lead the league in yards and were 2nd (behind KC) in scoring.

Both years he was OC for us, we were ranked higher in scoring than yardage.

Of course. They did their due diligence and didn't find anyone they liked better. It's just that most people are shocked by that. None of the top candidates across the league were a better option. That's a hell of a lot of confidence in your d-line coach, especially when it's the offense that needs fixing.

Not scoring? #1 scoring offense in 95, #3 in 96. The offense's problems were that we lost Watters and had to use Loville as the #1 RB.
If Baalke can bring this guy in, THERE IS HOPE!

Clyde Christensen, Colts QB coach.

After I read this I was sold. He can fix Kaep!!!

We still had the number 3 O that year.
