So when did promoting a coach who's been with and worked with the organization for 7+ years become a "yes man?"

The 'meathead' label was quickly debunked as was the idea he wasn't an X's and O's coach and that he's incapable of giving a good presser. What else?

Can't correct the grocery long list of issues we had under HaRoman? Fangio? Oops. He's just a soft players coach. Debunked.

I guess the 'yes man' label is just the latest B.S. to degrade our own HC, put down the FO and secretly yern for Jim Harbaugh frothing at the mouth? LOL

How was the meathead label debunked?? He sounds like an idiot in every interview. When has he proven himself with x's & o's?? Hes never been a DC.

its always the same guys high fiving eachother around here these days.

It's always the same guys low fiving each other around here these days.
Why is it that people can't just talk football without making spiteful and petulant comments about each other? GM, if the posting here bothers you that much, you have an alternative.

Well maybe you should read his recent interviews, doesn't sound stupid. It sounds like he has a plan. Being a DC has nothing to do with head coaching, they are almost entirely different jobs.

Good leaders don't micro manage. They deal with the big picture and make sure the right people are in place to make the organization run like a machine.

This. Harbaugh wanted to throw passes with the QB's, get in on special teams practice, basically insert himself into everything. He is doing the exact same thing at Michigan now. That style can work but you also risk undermining the respective position coaches as a result.

I like that Tomsula has detached himself, he's not running around doing DL drills, he's managing from afar and trusting the position coaches to do their jobs.
You might be right, but JH has left some large shoes to fill. Will JT get us to 3 straight NFC championship games anytime soon? I truly hope he can, but I have my doubts. JH has moved on and we have to as well, but no matter how odd JH was as a head coach, what we all really care about is results. I don't care how poor of a manager he was, or if he micro managed the team or threw warm-up passes to our QB, I only care that he had us in the late round playoffs 3 of 4 years. That was very impressive, and here is hoping JT can be just as impressive.

My point was not to completely undermine JH as a coach. He did a lot of things well, he had a vision for a team and created it. He set a tone and a mentality, and above all else allowed us to win. But, his style is not sustainable. He will never coach a team in the NFL for more then 5 years or so because he is a micromanager and egomaniac, he will always alienate his team and players and cause schisms in many parts of the organization. He loves chaos, and not many people can operate in that environment for long. I think our team would have continued to regress with Harbaugh as a coach due to his stubbornness and his rah-rah tactics falling on deaf ears. Just imagine a boss who give you the same rah-rah bull crap for 4 years, just imagine a boss who constantly comes in your office and wants to get hands on with what you are doing instead of trusting you to do it (its insulting), just imagine a boss who pits your department against another making enemies of each other. That environment is not conducive for growth or teamwork.

I would not be surprised if Harbuagh wins a superbowl. He is a VERY good head coach, but he is a culture changing leader and those guys burn out due to their leadership style. They will take a failing origination change the culture and instill a competitive winning mentality but they lack the ability to lead for long periods of time due to their abrasive personalities(which is what is necessary to change a culture in the first place but wears people down over time. Thus a double edged sword).

not as awful as those losses last year and lack of half time adjustments. we lost in ways i did not think were possible. and should we get started with making a list of games we won in spite of coaching and games we won which were made a helluva lot harder than they needed to be. enuff of the past, onward and upward with one locker room , no more dark clouds over our team, a fresh start for all, new ideas, new energy, a shot of youth with our draft, some great free agent signings and the acceptance of former niner great inside headquarters and at practice

Bill Walsh was always about getting rid of someone a year early then a year late. Morale was down in the locker room, there was a divide within the players and front office. That says it all, if players dont like whats happening because of leadership something needs to get changed.

But I disagree with CC. Someone will give a shot to Jim, he is similar to Bill Parcels in the fact that he is so much of an a*****e no one wants to play for him for more then a couple of years. Those guys have their place, but its about sustainability.

well they may, his ego will force him to take the job, and then they will find out, probably in shorter order than we did, what we found out about him

But any team will take a chance on a guy who can turn a team around. Once a culture is shifted its a lot easier to bring someone in who can guide the ship in the right direction, versus having to do it from scratch.

In the sense that many of them were difficult to watch and the final results were unnecessarily narrow, perhaps, but what was worse is that those wins became fleeting towards the end due to an unwillingness to grow.

We were a bs Kap fumble, plus the Chicago AZ games which we should have won from being an 11 win team... Not to mention a team that experienced one of the worst injury plagued years in NFL history... Yet we still finished 8-8... Just Stop...

Or it could have been the mounting injuries...
I agree that Tomsula is creating excitement... He seems to have a very good strategy fixing a lot of Harbaugh's issues, I just hope we arnt changin too many core concepts at once...

Mounting injuries definitely played a part but how do you explain all the second half meltdowns? How does a team play well the first half and then completely fall off a cliff the second half, not to mention the terrible fourth quarters. Lack of adjustments would be more fitting in my opinion.

Yeah, All our injuries other then AD were on defense, which was top 5 still. Our offense, which is the only side of the ball Jim handles, was horrendous due to Jim's unadaptive stubborn method. So yeah, we can say all these what if's. But with the talent we had we still should have been better last year, especially on offense. That falls on Harbaugh alone as the head coach. We should have been a 11 win team, not because of singular plays but because our offense as a whole should have been better.

But this is a Tomsula thread and I really do like what he has done, he wants to create a positive enviroment and team that fits together on all levels. Really does get me excited.

oh i am sorry, where were you when we blew the chargers game, where were you when oakland blew us out. a bunch of picks vs the giants and we barely win? where were you when the coach was clueless after those losses? pathetic. do not give me that"we should have won garbage"... our offense blew in the second half of the bears game, the coaching, asking ward to cover marshall by himself was b******t. "should have won" is for losers
