Two reasons why the place is practically a mausoleum.

For one, the acoustics suck. It's a ginormous building that was admittedly designed with "openness" in mind as a central theme....the problem with that is the more "open" any arena is, the harder it is to trap and concentrate sound. There's even two wide openings on opposite sides of the bowl.

The ideal for designing a louder stadium is building a smaller, compact venue with preferably a domed ceiling or overhanging to better redirect crowd noise.

Also, if we're talking LOUD fan bases, Niner fans are pretty mediocre in that regard. Sure, you can point to design and/or capacity of certain stadiums but the fans have to do their part too.

Seattle/KC/Saints fans, for example, they're all proud to be loud and take immense pride in trying to cause as many false starts as they can (they also know when and when not to be loud during the games ).

You have some fans in here talking about how they need to be impressed and only winning/big plays can get them out of their seats and cheer for their team. Seattle/KC/NO fans are up on their feet making noise on every down when their team is on D. Not happening at Levi's lulz.

when you say proud to be loud..those teams have something to help them be loud..and

So that's all we need, is an extra 6,000 seats? Lol stop it. The stadium sucks for noise, and we have a spoiled, rich, elitist, .01%er (for the most part) fan base. The stadium was built for the luxury boxes, not for crowd noise.

Build overhangs over each side of the stadium, and close off the ends (with or without seats). The shade will help those who are getting baked by the sun, and project the crowd noise back onto the field. Kill two birds with one stone.

Or leave it like it is. A mediocre stadium for a mediocre team with a mediocre (at best) coaching staff.

49er were bottom of the league in Season ticket prices, now they are pretty much league average..and this is the bay area ($$) not middle America

Again sharks fans are loud very loud but the stadium just doesn't multiply the voices. You all want to blaim the fans but it's obviously a design issue. If the design holds sounds and makes it stronger it changes the atmosphere. Wine and cheese won't be an issue when everyone has to wear earprotection or lose hearing.

But if you have been to loud stadiums , it's the crowd more than anything.

Went to the NINERS vs saints game in NOLA this year and they are head over heals louder than Niner fans. You got old grandmas drunk smacking brochures on the chairs and the grNdpa doing the loud ass whistle on every singe defensive play, and forget about 3rd downs.

SF Gianta fans get louder than candle stick.

Went to the Patriots vs NinerS game in Gillette stadium on a frigid Sunday night, out door stadium with same amount of people as a home ninerS game and they were way louder.

You don't have to go to many non Niner home games to see that the home crowd isn't loud.

2 Ravens games in Bmore against the niners, including the thanksgiving game and same thing , louder than our home games.
