Someone that likes giving up 15 yards on 3rd and 14

Promoting Vic isn't an option. If Jim leaves, he leaves.

And you know this how exactly? Fangio was an assistant and a defensive coordinator in the NFL for 24 years before he got involved with Jim Harbaugh, just because he came over with with him from Stanford doesn't mean he's going to go bouncing around the NFL just because he does. Fangio's contract also lasts through 2015, meaning he can't just up and leave suddenly unless its for a head coaching position.

If the 49ers offered him a head coaching spot, it'd be silly to think he'd turn it down so he could play Robin to Harbaugh's Batman.

Pete Carroll was 33-31 in his first stint in the NFL (two different teams). Jim Morra was 31-33 (two different teams). Carroll then went 83–19 at USC and Mora has gone 28–11 at UCLA. I am not saying i would want him but his similarities to Carroll are probably why people are thinking about him as an NFL coach again.

Then again he wasn't considered a good defensive coordinator before hooking up with Harbaugh. He might have loyalty to him for reviving his career.

He was pretty good for the Panthers early on, struggled badly with the Colts and basically cost Jim Mora his job and then latched on to an expansion team in Houston. I remember growing up, knowing him for his work in N.O. mainly.

His problem was the defense would start out playing great and each year get worse. There is a reason at age 48 he had to become a Special Assistant, no on wanted him for a coordinator job. This will be his first job as DC were he wasn't fired at the end.
One NFL coaching attribute we often overlook is the "politician factor", and I think Harbaugh needs to brush up on this, if he had good politics he would've probably been extended a long time ago. I also don't think Fangio and Tomsula has it.

Pete Carroll, is an elite politician! That's why the refs love him.

This... and his selection in OC.

Another sort of issue I've had with Harbaugh is is demagogue approach to leadership. Stuff like that works in the short term but ends up becoming tuned out, eventually resented over time.

Looking at Kubiak, I can even pretty much see a staff start to form as well.

HC-Kubiak
OC-Rick Dennison-QB coach in Baltimore, former OC in Houston
OL Coach-Frank Pollack(former 49ers OL, was on the 1994 roster), contract expires with Dallas at the end of the year, was assistant OL coach in Houston
TE Coach-Brian Pariani-Was an offensive assistant on 1994 49ers
WR Coach-Larry Kirksey-Was WR coach on the 1994 49ers
OL Consultant-Alex Gibbs-Longtime OL coach in Denver, friend of Kubiak's

It connects the franchise's past to the present, also allows the 49ers to maintain their run-first philosophy as Kubiak runs a very run heavy variant of the WCO.

Do you guys think that old players like Young and Rice would be willing to come back and help coach and mentor our current players if we were to get Kubiak? What do you guys think?

Dude, if even a quarter of Phoenix's list proves prophetic, there would be no point. The offense would have what it needs. And Kubs would be GREAT for Keap.
Ehi Phoenix,
I always read your posts because they are detailed and really interesting.

I read that you are a fan of Kubial solution but I think he would a terrible choice.

Kubiak is a Norc Turner clone. Terrific OC but mediocre HC.

Kubiak lacks fire and leadership skills, Houston always collapsed in the fourth quarter.

Please No Kubiak. He would be frustrating choice

One of the few things I hang completely on Harbaugh! His behavior on the field has likely cost the 9ers calls and hurt the team by being preoccupied yelling and frothing when he should have been plotting and scheming. His stubborn support of his staff is both good and bad. I admire this but it has hurt the team.

This is the most talented roster he's ever had. N.O. had good LBs. We are good everywhere on defense.

Those guys don't want to coach. They don't need to work 80/wk for less money than they make working 20/wk
