The 49ers 2015 Coaching Search Thread(All Rumors Here)

Well, he's got the most votes in the coaching search thread/poll. So he's still popular among the fan base. I gotta be honest though....I'd be very disappointed if he was the hire. Obviously he brings a wealth of WCO knowledge to the table, but he's been out of coaching for 6 years now. He stepped away from it and tried a FO job for a reason. The dude is burnt out.

I think the next HC needs to be a guy who can lead the team now and into the future. Not in favor of hiring someone who will be out the door in a few seasons because of his age. I love how the Steelers approach the HC position. They simply find the right guy who fits their philosophy, and stick by him for a long time. Simple and effective. That's what the 49ers need to do.

I agree that is the right thing to do and it would be great to do it, but is their a Mike Tomlin out their to push us over the top.

Good question. Who knows?

Tomlin himself was a really young dude with a limited track record when hired. 35 years old...5 years as a DB coach...1 year as a D-Coordinator. He was highly regarded, but not much on his resume to make him a slam-dunk hire, or at least that was the perception at the time. But obviously the Steelers were savvy enough to see his head coaching ability and hire him.

Baalke and York just have to do their HW on these guys and find the right coach. More important than age or years experience is philosophy, leading the locker room, and being able to work productively with all levels of the organization. I'd love it if the 49ers could find a young coach who is aligned with their vision and can be here a long time. There has to be someone out there, just a matter of finding him.

#3. Ryan (With a GOOD OC, he probably would bring in garbage though, Could easily switch 3 and 4 around but I'm hoping #1 anyways)
#4. Kubiak (possibly Holmgren and Shanahan... I think they are past their prime though but would be interesting)
#5. Austin/Bowles (Be near the top of my list if we had a great O and a bad D. Rather just keep Fangio.
#6 Jackson or Hamilton (especially if we keep Fangio and d staff)

Least Favorite:
College Coaches Especially Mora, Helfrich....Bevell, Most of the Retreads, Dan Quinn, Tomsula (be great for 1-2 seasons but rah rah gets old fast, wouldnt bring in good OC likely plus lose Fangio and D staff maybe)

My Dark Horse To Succeed As A HC Although Likely Won't Be Hire By Us: Teryl Austin

My top choices look almost exactly like that, only I'd replace Ryan with Dan Quinn. I'm liking Quinn's ties with San Francisco, he pretty much knows the Front office, so if interested he knows what to put up with. Also Fangio would be my #3 and Kubiyak would be my #2, I have a change of heart for Kubiyak, a few posters make some really good points and stats about him. Pep Hamilton at #4 and Todd Bowles at #5. The only college coach I'd be excited about is Helfrich, sure his college offensive system won't fully work in the NFL, but it's his creativity on offense that intrigues me.

adam gays probably
I heard they spent 6 hours with Fangio --- I'd love to see him come in, bring in a young OC and run with it for 10 years. We'd win a lot of games. There simply is not an OC out there to hire as HC that i feel has the Fangio level of experience. And defense wins games, even in an offensive league (Seattle? 2011,2013 49ers?)

--Gase is only part of the story -- and I want someone who developed a QB not who was developed by a QB (precursor step maybe?).
--McDanials -- Didn't they give him player responsibility too? And he selected Tim Tebow? Need I say more?
--If they go with Tomsula and they are idiots, we loose 14 games, stadium is empty, and York is a running joke

My prediction: They go with Fangio and a good OC -- We' win a SuperBowl right away, this season (15/16)

No chance they hire this guy!!!
When do you guys think will announce a new HC? Or will we bring guys back for a second interview
So if another team offers a coach the HC job will they wait for our decision or just take the position
Shanahan as HC, Kyle Shanahan as OC (or vice versa) (if they both do really well in his interview and reference checking, etc)

Keep the defense staff intact by giving out some raises and perhaps "asst head coach" titles

Good point. Tomlin wasn't the highly sought after coach at the time of the hire.

I can't remember a coordinator like Gase, where every team with an opening seems to want to at least interview him for the job. Can anyone remember some else like that? Wisenhunt? Hayley? Payton?

I still have questions about Gase and who really runs Denver's offense-him or manning? I would put Fangio #1 and Kubiak #2. I would be rather upset/surprise if they hire another defensive mind to be the head coach over Fangio. It would be an extreme slap in the face to Fangio IMO.

I don't think Fangio has the makeup to be HC. I'm still pulling for Gase or M.Shanahan.

Probably McDaniels in 2009, when the Broncos hired him. He was hyped up pretty good. Pats offense broke all kinds of records in 2007, and then they won 11 games with Matt Cassell in 2008. Belichick claimed he was one of the brightest coaches he'd ever seen, and maybe he is.

Personality and ability to lead 53 men are pretty big qualities though, something McDaniels lacked, or didn't have any understanding of at the time. Maybe Gase has matured enough already, like Tomlin was when the Steelers hired him, to lead grown men and get them to buy in. You have to know how to manage people and push the right buttons, almost like a psychologist. I think that's something Bill Walsh said once.

It's not the same but if you look at McCarthy from ua to Packers. He was OC in Smith's rookie year where we had worst offense in the league. Yet he has gone there and done well.

By which, I mean that someone doesn't have to be the hot commodity, or coming off a great season.
