Promoting Vic isn't an option. If Jim leaves, he leaves.

And you know this how exactly? Fangio was an assistant and a defensive coordinator in the NFL for a long time before he got involved with Jim Harbaugh, just because he came over with with him from Stanford doesn't mean he's going to go bouncing around the NFL just because he does. Fangio's contract also lasts through 2015, meaning he can't just up and leave suddenly unless its for a head coaching position.

If the 49ers offered him a head coaching spot, it'd be silly to think he'd turn it down so he could play Robin to Harbaugh's Batman.

Then again he wasn't considered a good defensive coordinator before hooking up with Harbaugh. He might have loyalty to him for reviving his career.

where did you get that from? he was a damn good coordinator long before he hooked up with Harbaugh

His defenses in NC, INDY, and Houston got progressively worse each year and by the time he left each place they were at the bottom of the league..

Who ever we get is instantly a downgrade from Harbaugh

Because the next coach couldn't get this roster to 9-7, 8-8 or 7-9

I truly believe this. The grass is always greener on the other side, and a lot of people are forgetting that.

I don't care who the HC is, but if Fangio leaves, we will be absolutely screwed. They need to make Fangio HC and bring in anyone who can put together a top 10 offense and we will be set.

I'd definitely be on board with that and start calling up teams and hoping one gives us permission to speak to their oc.. kubiak, hue jackson, hamilton, gase, etc. wrathman makes a good point though about them leaving for a hc job in a few years if they do well. almost need to find an offensive guru and make him hc long term. i guess could always do next man up at oc when that person leaves if we went with fangio. i mean if we are a good team though we shouldnt have problems finding a good oc but for continuity wise might be better off going next man up or finding someone of the same pedigree.

Why would and OC that has been successful this pass season leave their current job as a OC to go to other team for the same job?

If getting rid of Roman means Harbaugh has to go, I'm all for it.

I WANT AN OFFENSIVE MINDED COACH ..PERIOD
I'm glad I'm not the one making this decision. I would feel very secure and confident if they hire ubiak, provided that his brain doesn't pop. Gase seems like such an interesting prospect, but high risk/high reward. We could ride into the future with the emergent mind leading the next strategic leap forward in offensive football (remember those days?), or we could get a super-smart wonder kid who can't pull together the organization and handle the executive duties of the job. Beyond that, Kubiak uses WCO terminology (safe and familiar), while Gase is digits (new, with risk of a learning curve for the players).

Both sound like great options. Kubiak seems unlikely to blow up in our faces, and I am almost certain the offense would improve under him, but Gase seems ready to set the world on fire.

What to do?

I can't imagine ANY team granting that permission, especially to us. I know several teams are still pissed at us for refusing to allow position coaches to interview for coordinator positions.
What is all of this new found love for Kubiak?

Adam Gase for HC! I think having a very driven GM like Baalke would help him in becoming a leader and I like the idea of having a young coach that is hungry to be the next great HC for a storied franchise....Kubiak is my 2nd option and is a safe pick, but I'd take a chance on one of the great young offensive minds! How great would it be to have Gase be the real deal and not have to worry about getting a new coach in 5 years?

he has my vote
You know what, I'd be down to bring Kubiak to 49ers. Itd be a good fit. He coaches a great zone blocking run/playaction scheme that this current talent is already geared for and if somehow Fangio stays and a healthy Bowman & Dorsey and full year of Aldon & Tank and Justin one more round then 2015 can be a very decent season. with Kubiak and beyond.
I hardly ever post but I think Kubiak would be legit for this offense. With WCO concepts you dont NEED track stars and would be able to utilize the entire offense very well and better then Harbaugh IMO.

Nobody is scratching their head that "Gase's" offense with Manning got dominated in Seattle in the Super Bowl?... They are the team to beat in the NFC, like it or not until proven otherwise or miss the playoffs.

No homer responses please, id love to these some great football minds bring up some stats. Kubiak offenses VS seattle stats perhaps etc.?
Good comments guys - WAYYYYYYYYYY to many to copy here.

My Top 4 in the order are:

A). Gase - Many reasons already stated - in short, offensive mind that can adapt AND innovate - we've already got a terrific D in place

B). Kubiak - REAL experience and depth, proven over & over. Has made mistakes and IMO has learned from them

C). Pep - I don't know enough about him but from what many of you have written and what I've seen - he's very bright and brings an AGGRESSIVE offensive mentality

D). Josh McDaniels - This is based allot on feelings. The guy is creative and aggressive on offense. He is working w/one of the greatest coaches in NFL history. I think he'd bring allot to the organization

Finally, I also believe all of these guys could help Kap grow.
